All the Deadpool & Wolverine Cameos, Explained

The post All the Deadpool & Wolverine Cameos, Explained appeared first on Consequence.

Cameos have been a hallmark of the Marvel Cinematic Universe from its very inception, when Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury first appeared at the end of Iron Man to tell Tony Stark he wasn’t alone. With the onset of the Multiverse Saga post-Avengers: Endgame, the possibilities for pop-ins by unexpected characters has expanded exponentially. As Deadpool & Wolverine slashes its way into theaters, it begs the question: Who will join the cast in surprise Deadpool 3 cameos?

Since it was first announced that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine would be teaming up with Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool, the door was seemingly opened for every member of Fox’s X-Men film series to walk in; Halle Berry’s Storm, James Marsden’s Cyclops, Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey, or Ian McKellen’s Magneto could all conceivably join Deadpool & Wolverine thanks to its universe- and timeline-hopping premise. In fact, all of Fox’s Marvel movies were on the table, with reports appearing to confirm Jennifer Garner’s return as Elektra.

Then there are the extreme bets: After being spotted with director Shawn Levy, Reynolds, and Jackman at the Super Bowl, speculation that Taylor Swift would be cast as Dazzler sprung up. The rumor mill churned out conversations about Channing Tatum finally getting a turn as Gambit, or Superman himself Henry Cavill taking a potshot at DC by showing up as a Wolverine variant.

But Marvel has admitted to playing into all this hubbub, feeding the internet’s hungriest MCU fans with fake rumors and planted false info, all in an effort to keep the real cameo surprises for the theaters. To wit, none of the names above have been confirmed by anyone actually involved in the film. However, trailers for Deadpool & Wolverine have indeed revealed more than a few additional cast members, some of whom we’ve long anticipated and some we never saw coming.

Below, find a list of all the confirmed Deadpool & Wolverine cameos. Check back later this week, as we’ll update this list once the complete cast of Deadpool 3 is revealed when the movie is released on July 26th. Still, spoilers ahead for anyone who’s kept themselves away from any trailers to this point!

Dafne Keen as X-23

Deadpool & Wolverine (Marvel)

With Jackman coming back as Wolverine, fans were hoping his Logan co-star Dafne Keen would also return as Laura, aka X-23. Keen made her feature debut at just 11 years old playing a young clone of Logan in the 2017 critical and commercial smashLike her “father,” Laura has regenerative healing powers and metal claws — though unlike Wolverine’s three per hand, she has two and a single one on each foot.

Keen’s only appearance to date as X-23 was Logan, which makes perfect sense considering how that movie ended. Still, her performance in that film was universally praised, especially considering her age and the darker themes she was tackling. Seeing her back to pop the claws (and don the cupcake glasses?) once more alongside Jackman’s “resurrected” Wolverine is surely exciting — but Marvel spoiling it in the final Deadpool 3 trailer is certainly something of a surprise. If they’re not afraid to reveal this big of a cameo before the movie even hits theaters, we can only imagine what else is in store.

Aaron Stanford as Pyro

Deadpool & Wolverine (Marvel)

Aaron Stanford was one of the first “cameo” cast members to be confirmed for Deadpool & Wolverine when his Pyro was showcased in the Super Bowl trailer. While we don’t get to see him using his mutant control over fire, he’s seen in later trailers sitting in a flame-decal adorned version of what looks like Red Skull’s car from Captain America: The First Avenger. Cameo riding a cameo?

Stanford made two appearances in the Fox X-Men universe, first as a student with torn allegiances in X2: X-Men United and again as a full-fledged member of Magneto’s Brotherhood in X-Men: The Last Stand. The latter saw him do epic battle with Shawn Ashmore’s Iceman, and with one of the most cinematic powers in the X-universe, hopefully we get more flame fights in Deadpool 3.

Tyler Mane as Sabertooth

Deadpool & Wolverine (Marvel)

As the Deadpool & Wolverine slogan would put it, let’s fucking go! Wolverine’s arch enemy Sabertooth is back, played once again by Tyler Mane. Sabertooth is the yin to Wolverine’s yang, his half-brother with whom he has been at odds for centuries. (Their mutant healing powers mean they both age at a decelerated rate.) Canon has established that they fought against and alongside each other during their long lives, but at the end of the day, they are each other’s ultimate opposite.

Mane’s only previous performance as Sabertooth came in 2000’s X-Men, where he was a member of Magneto’s Brotherhood. He was really only there as muscle, though, growling at and throwing around X-Men with barely any dialogue; “Scream for me” was his only spoken line — and it wasn’t even to Jackman’s Wolverine. Liev Schreiber portrayed a more fleshed out version in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, in which Reynolds first appeared as a bastardized version of Deadpool. But considering that iteration of Deadpool was so unloved that Reynold’s modern Wade Wilson essentially murdered him in Deadpool 2, perhaps it’s not surprising they went back to Mane for Deadpool 3.

Regardless, the chance to see Jackman’s Wolverine and Mane’s Sabertooth lock claws once again is a fanboy’s wet dream.

Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15

deadpool 3 cast cameos deadpool and wolverine Wunmi Mosaku Hunter B-15 loki

Deadpool & Wolverine (Marvel)

This one just makes sense. It’s long been known that one of the primary antagonists of Deadpool & Wolverine would be the Time Variance Authority, aka the TVA, which first appeared in the Loki series. While the main TVA agent Deadpool is dealing with is clearly Mr. Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen), having a familiar face like Wunmi Mosaku’s Hunter B-15 to tie in with the broader MCU is the type of interconnective cameo seen throughout the franchise.

Mosaku’s appearance was rumored for a few weeks before it was confirmed in one of the film’s final teaser. Her one line, “I want to show you something huge,” is played as an editing joke against Deadpool (“I don’t think you’re supposed to say that”), so it’s not clear how big her role will be. When we last saw Hunter B-15 in Loki Season 2, however, she’d taken on a leadership role within the TVA. Does that mean she’s behind Mr. Paradox’s actions… or has the TVA agent gone rogue?

Ray Park? as Toad

deadpool 3 cast cameos deadpool and wolverine toad ray park x-men fantastic four car fantasticar

Deadpool & Wolverine (Marvel)

Toad is an evil mutant who was a primary member of the Brotherhood in X-Men and a tertiary member of a mutant military force fighting in Vietnam in X-Men: Days of Future Past. His design shifted considerably between the two films, but the version that’s showed up in the Deadpool 3 trailers certainly looks like Ray Park’s take from the original X-Men.

Park, who had just come off playing Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, gave Toad a unique physicality that differed greatly from the sniveling stooge of the comics. The move also upgraded his powers considerably, adding wall-crawling, adhesive spit, and a long, gross, prehensile tongue. That extended oral muscle (yeah, felt icky writing it, too) makes an appearance in the final preview of Deadpool & Wolverine, hence speculation that this could indeed be Park returning to the role.

Jason Flemyng? as Azazel

Deadpool & Wolverine (Marvel)

In the scenes trailers have shown of Cassandra Nova’s (Emma Corrin) base — itself something of a cameo, as it’s inside the corpse of a giant Ant-Man — there are numerous characters scattered about. Quick cuts and wide shots are catnip for eagle eyed fans eager to catch a glimpse of any recognizable mutant, and a few have stood out in the plentiful Deadpool & Wolverine previews.

One of the easiest to spot is a slender, well-dressed red character with an arrow-pointed tail. Without a doubt, this is Azazel, a villainous teleporter played by Jason Flemygn in X-Men: First Class. Of course, the distance from which we see the character makes it impossible to tell if this is a Flemygn cameo or just an Azazel cameo, but it seems like a good bet that this is indeed the original actor in the role.

Kelly Hu? as Lady Deathstrike

deadpool 3 cast cameos deadpool and wolverine lady deathstrike kelly hu

The same goes with Kelly Hu as Lady Deathstrike, a mostly silent advisory who stood at William Stryker’s (Brian Cox) side throughout X2: X-Men United. Lady Deathstrike’s body has been augmented by adamantium, the nearly indestructible metal that covers Wolverine’s bones. But while Logan’s external adamantium comes in the form of his claws, Lady Deathstrike’s extends from her fingernails. Think of it as the world’s most deadly acrylics.

If this is really Kelly Hu returning, a rematch of her fight with Hugh Jackman from X2 — one of the series’ most brutal and thrilling — would be a bout worthy of a Vegas ring.

Vinnie Jones? as Juggernaut

Deadpool & Wolverine (Marvel)

This one is a true pause-or-you’ll-miss-it moment, but in the background of Cassandra’s compound there is a strong man whose costume is clearly similar to the one worn by Juggernaut in X-Men: The Last Stand. In that movie, the part was played by Vinnie Jones; a very different, more monstrous version was a CGI creation in Deadpool 2, with Ryan Reynolds himself providing the voice and facial capture. For what it’s worth, Jones himself said he turned down a cameo appearance because of how uncomfortable he found the Last Stand suit.

There’s no way to know whose been cast as the Juggernaut in Deadpool 3, but his immovable presence is sure to provide a hell of an obstacle for Reynolds and Jackman.

Taylor Swift? Blake Lively? as Lady Deadpool

Deadpool & Wolverine (Marvel)

You don’t thrust Deadpool into the multiverse and expect the Deadpool Corps not to show up. Some of the final trailers for Deadpool and Wolverine indeed revealed that the Corps would unite for the movie, and it looks like Lady Deadpool is at the head. But who’s in the suit? Could this be where Taylor Swift was actually cast? (Putting the world’s biggest pop star in a mask for a cameo seems unlikely, if we’re being honest.) Maybe it’s Mrs. Ryan Reynolds herself, Blake Lively, joining her superhero husband’s all-star cast. Will we even learn who it is until the credits, or will the mask be removed for a gasp-and-cheer moment?

Who knows! What is known is that behind her are the silhouettes of fan-favorites like Cowboy Deadpool and the flying zombie Headpool, plus we already know Dogpool is in the mix. Given how annoying Wolverine has found Reynold’s iteration alone in the trailers, seeing him having to deal with dozens of Deadpool is sure to be a hoot.

Cassandra Nova’s Crew: The Omegas?

deadpool 3 cast cameos deadpool and wolverine omegas x-men last stand callisto psylocke arclight
deadpool 3 cast cameos deadpool and wolverine omegas x-men last stand callisto psylocke arclight

Deadpool & Wolverine (Marvel)

While some of Cassandra’s crew are easily identifiable, others are a bit more vague. In one particular wide shot, there are three characters who look like they could be members of The Omegas, a group that joined Magneto’s Brotherhood in X-Men: The Last Stand. On the far left next to Toad could be Callisto (Dania Ramirez), behind and to the left of Lady Deathstrike could be Psylocke (Mei Melan?on), and on the far right in back of Red Skull’s car looks like Arclight (Omahyra Mota). Although we’d need a closer look at these three to confirm it’s really them, the idea of Marvel digging this deep into the Fox Universe well shows just how varied the Deadpool 3 cast could be.

Vehicles: Moon Knight’s Cupcake Truck and Fantastic Four’s Fantasticar?

deadpool 3 cast cameos deadpool and wolverine moon knight ice cream cupcake truck fantastic four car fantasticar
deadpool 3 cast cameos deadpool and wolverine moon knight ice cream cupcake truck fantastic four car fantasticar

Deadpool & Wolverine (Marvel)

Okay, a bit of a bonus round here. When Cassandra’s henchmen are circling around Deadpool and Wolverine, some of the vehicles are highly familiar. One is the Sü?wagen cupcake truck that was driven by Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight in the Disney+ series of the same name, while the other is less immediately identifiable. The vehicle Toad is riding in, with its oblong shape and apparent hovering mobility, certainly looks like the famed Fantasticar, the signature mode of transportation for the Fantastic Four; there’s even a “2” emblem where the “4” should be. Marvel recently announced its Fantastic Four cast (Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach), so building up hype for the heroes with a little tease like this would be very much in the studio’s playbook.
