Demi Lovato's sister gives update on the singer's sobriety
Demi Lovato is on the mend, two months after her nearly fatal overdose. Lovato’s sister, Madison De La Garza, gave an update on the “Sober” singer’s health while promoting De La Garza’s new movie Subject 16 on Monday.
“[Demi’s] doing really well, she’s working really hard on her sobriety, and we’re all so incredibly proud of her,” the 16-year-old actress told Millennial Hollywood. “It’s been crazy for our family. It’s been a lot.
“But we’ve been through a lot together, and every single time, I mean if you read my mom’s book, you would know, every time we go through something, we always come out on the other side a hundred times stronger than before,” De La Garza said. “And so we’ve just been so thankful for everything, for the little things.”
One of the “little things” she can’t wait to do with her big sister when Lovato, 26, returns from treatment is go get frozen yogurt. “It sounds so small, but go to Menchie’s,” De La Garza said. “Honestly, I’m more of a Pinkberry person, but she likes Menchie’s, and so we usually go there.”
Lovato entered rehab in August immediately after she was released from the hospital. The singer was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for 11 days due to “complications” and her mother recently revealed just how serious her condition was.

Dianna De La Garza got a call from Lovato’s assistant on July 24 saying the singer was conscious, but not talking. “I knew at that point that we were in trouble,” she recalled, adding her daughter was in “critical condition” for a “couple of days.”
“We just didn’t know for two days if she was going to make it or not,” she added. “I was very concerned, and I was trying to be strong for her and for her sisters and for my family back home. … I just feel like the reason she’s alive today is because of the millions of prayers that went up that day.”
Lovato released a statement before entering rehab. “I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet,” she said. “I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery. … I will keep fighting.”
The singer is working on her sobriety at a facility on the East Coast and has had the support of her family, friends, and ex-boyfriend, Wilmer Valderrama, through her recovery.
