'Desperate Housewives' Real-Life Couples: Meet the Cast’s Husbands
In the '00s, Desperate Housewives was appointment viewing. The show, which had an impressive eight-season run from 2004 to 2012, explored the darkness under the surface of a seemingly perfect suburb, as it delved into the juicy dramas of a group of women living in the fictional town of Wisteria Lane.
Much of the multiple Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning show’s appeal came from its charismatic cast, courtesy of creator Marc Cherry, and viewers couldn’t look away from their chaotic onscreen love lives. If you’ve ever wondered whether the actresses’ real-life relationships were as dramatic as what was on the show, read on. Here’s a look at all the offscreen Desperate Housewives husbands.
Teri Hatcher (Susan Mayer)
Teri Hatcher married personal trainer Marcus Leithold in 1988, but their union lasted just a year, and they divorced in 1989. She then married actor Jon Tenney in 1994, but they divorced in 2003. Hatcher told Vanity Fair that their marriage lacked spice, saying, “From the beginning, our marriage was probably more defined by friendship,” rather than intimacy. They had a daughter, Emerson, in 1997.
Hatcher is currently single, and this year, she revealed that she tried dating apps — only to be kicked off because they didn’t believe the account was really hers, and she was flagged for catfishing!
The actress has found peace in single life, admitting, “I'm definitely done with the dating apps, and I feel like if there's any way I’ll go somewhere and meet someone, that's what it's gonna have to be. Honestly, I'm happy. I have a really full life, a really busy life. I have beautiful friends. It's fine: I don’t need a man. I have a cat.”
Felicity Huffman (Lynette Scavo)
Where Lynette is married to Tom Scavo on the show, Felicity Huffman has been married to fellow actor William H. Macy since 1997. They met in the New York theater scene in the '80s, and they have two daughters, Sophia and Georgia.
The actors have collaborated on various projects, including the films Rudderless (2014) and Krystal (2017), and Huffman said, “We’ve been working together since I was 21 or 22. We have a great working relationship.”
While Huffman and Macy have had a long and happy marriage, in 2019 they became the subjects of much negative press when the actress was charged in the notorious college admissions scandal, wherein celebrities attempted to fix their children's SAT scores and influence their college admissions.
Marcia Cross (Bree Van de Kamp)
While Bree was married to Rex Van de Camp (and others), Marcia Cross had a long-term relationship with actor Richard Jordan, lasting from 1985 until his death in 1993. In 2006, she married stockbroker Tom Mahoney, who she met by chance at a flower shop in 2004. Their twin daughters, Savannah and Eden, were born in 2007.
Cross and Mahoney have endured struggles in their personal lives, as both of them have battled cancer, but fortunately they are both now in remission.
Reflecting on her marriage, Cross said, “That's a real joy for me because he possesses stability and I've got an impulsive side. It's a wonderful combination.”
Eva Longoria (Gabrielle Solis)
We know all about Gaby and Carlos Solis’s tumultuous relationship, but did you know Eva Longoria has been married three times? From 2002 to 2004, she was married to the late General Hospital star Tyler Christopher. She was then married to basketball player Tony Parker from 2007 to 2011. Since 2016, she has been married to businessman José Bastón, who she met through a mutual friend. They had a son, Santiago, in 2018.
Clearly, the third time was the charm for the actress. As she told People, “I'm not a fan of marriage; I like being married to him. I never thought I would get married again. It's him, he makes it all worth it."
Nicollette Sheridan (Edie Britt)
Nicollette Sheridan has had quite the colorful love life. As a young actress in the '80s, she dated teen idols Leif Garrett and Scott Baio. In 1991, she married handsome L.A. Law star Harry Hamlin, but they divorced a year later. She then dated singer Michael Bolton from 1992 to 1995. They got back together from 2005 to 2008, and were engaged, but ultimately broke it off.
After that, Sheridan married Aaron Phypers, the owner of a light and sound therapy center, in 2015, but they separated just six months into their marriage and finalized their divorce in 2018. Hamlin and Phypers went on to marry Real Housewives of Beverly Hills stars Lisa Rinna and Denise Richards, respectively.
Sheridan is currently single, and she does not have any children.
