Diplo and Lil Wayne To Headline California Ski Resort Music Festival

Palisades Tahoe, California is kicking off the winter season with a musical bang—Lil Wayne and Diplo are coming to the resort on December 14th and 15th, 2024, respectively, as the headliners for Tahoe Live.

Lil Wayne (or Tunechi, or Weezy F. Baby, or Mr. Carter—the list goes on. And on.) is a rap music heavyweight. With classics like A Milli, 6 Foot 7 Foot, and Drop the World to his name, he wrote and performed the soundtrack for an entire generation. Personally, I can’t untangle his music from my formative—or embarrassing—middle school experiences, but Lil Wayne’s accomplishments obviously go beyond reminding me of that one time I thought wearing sweatpants to a dance was a good idea. He has 186 entries on the Billboard Hot 100, 11 BET Awards, two MTV VMAs, and five Grammys.

Diplo brings the club bangers. The world-renowned DJ specializes in getting crowds moving and is sure to turn the apres dial up a few notches. He’s worked with M.I.A, Dua Lipa, and Skrillex—alongside co-creating Major Lazer, a dancehall project. His set will allow you to see how hard you can or can’t throw it back in ski boots. There’s more than one way to stress-test your ACLs, right?

While Lil Wayne and Diplo are the headliners, more Tahoe Live artists will be announced in the future. Shaq, playing under the moniker DJ Diesel, showed up last year, as did several other musicians (it’s unclear if Shaq went skiing or snowboarding, but we can dream). In short, the event’s a big honkin’ party that smashes skiing and cutting loose together.

By the time Lil Wayne and Diplo take the stage, Palisades Tahoe’s winter season will already be underway, weather and conditions permitting. The resort plans to fire up the lifts on November 27th this year. A few short weeks afterward, the DJs—and Lil Wayne—will start doing their thing, too.

The Tahoe Live announcement comes on the heels of another happening that got the winter stoke gears churning. Late last month, the Lake Tahoe area picked up a dusting of early-season snow. The unusual storm didn’t amount to much—a few now melted snowflakes won’t have much bearing on this upcoming season—but they did issue an important reminder: summer’s on its way out. Before long, skiing, and EDM, apparently, will be in.
