‘Divorce’ Premiere: The 5 Best Zingers for People in Dysfunctional Relationships
HBO’s new series Divorce premiered Sunday evening, and it entertained viewers with hilarious zingers that many who’ve been in dysfunctional relationships can appreciate. The show follows the broken marriage of Frances (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Robert (Thomas Haden Church).
Throughout the “Pilot” episode, there were wonderfully written, directed, and performed scenes that gave the dark subject matter some levity by finding the comedy in the saddest of romantic events: dying love.
Viewers learned that Frances has fallen out of love with Robert and subsequently has been having a long-term affair with a man name Julian (Jemaine Clement). When Robert finds out, he tells Frances, “You’re the evildoer, the flimflammer, the double-crosser, the bunco artist. You know who you are? You’re Jesse James and I get to be Sandra Bullock. And I get to rise from the ashes of humiliation and win a f***ing Academy Award!”
Hopefully the whole series is as entertaining, relatable, and well produced as the pilot. If so, HBO could have a pretty big hit on its hands.
Divorce airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on HBO.
