The residents of Serenity are in for some “OMG moments” (many, in fact) when Sweet Magnolias returns to Netflix for its long-awaited fourth season.

This tease comes courtesy of JoAnna Garcia Swisher, one of the show’s titular Magnolias, who recently posted about wrapping filming on Season 4, which she calls her favorite “by far.”
“That’s a wrap on Season 4!” Swisher posted on May 30, photographed alongside fellow Magnolias (and two of her “favorite humans”) Heather Headley and Brooke Elliott. “I cannot wait for you all to see what we have been up to in Serenity. It’s been a magical season…for reasons I cannot wait to share.”
She continued, “This was BY FAR my favorite season…not just for the OMG moments (there are many of them!), but because it was a joy to make. And, in many ways, it feels like we are just getting started.”
Unlike previous seasons, the Netflix drama’s third outing didn’t end with a traditional cliffhanger, instead giving everyone a (mostly) happy ending. Dana Sue and Ronnie renewed their vows in a beautiful ceremony, Helen caught the bride’s bouquet and made eyes at Erik, Maddie and Cal agreed to stay together and help each other grow, and Ty and Annie finally — wait for it — held hands! It was quite a finale.

1. When Does Sweet Magnolias Season 4 Premiere?
Bless their hearts, the good people at Netflix have not yet announced a release date for Season 4. Filming wrapped on May 30, making it possible (but far from guaranteed) that we’ll get any new episodes in 2024.
2. Who Is Returning for Sweet Magnolias Season 4?
Unless announced at a later date, we have reason to expect all of Sweet Magnolias‘ current series regulars back for Season 4: JoAnna Garcia Swisher as Maddie, Brooke Elliott as Dana Sue, Heather Headley as Helen, Logan Allen as Kyle, Anneliese Judge as Annie, Carson Rowland as Ty, Justin Bruening as Cal, Jamie Lynn Spears as Noreen, Dion Johnstone as Erik, Brandon Quinn as Ronnie, Chris Medlin as Isaac and Chris Klein as (ugh) Bill.
The usual rotation of recurring characters — Mary Vaughn (Allison Gabriel), Paula (Caroline Lagerfelt), etc. — will also likely make appearances throughout the season.
3. Will Maddie and Cal Get Engaged in Season 4?
Prior to Cal’s detour into anger-ville, he and Maddie were ready to take their relationship to the next level. So now that he’s putting the many handsome pieces of his life back together, will he and Maddie also get back on track romantically?
Swisher tells us not to get too ahead of ourselves: “They fell in love quickly, and it was this swooping, wonderful gift in their lives. Then the dust settled, life happened, and they had some things to grapple with,” the actress reminds TVLine. “They’re catching their breath and enjoying life, celebrating that they made it over a big hurdle. I’m excited to see what the future holds for them.”
4. Will Helen and Erik (Finally) Get Together in Season 4?
Sure, Helen dropped Erik like a hot potato the minute Ryan rolled back into town, and Erik appears to have moved on with someone new… but there’s still hope for these two, right?
“They have to try it out,” Headley tells TVLine. “In the beginning of [Season 3], Helen says, ‘I have to see this through with Ryan. I have to punctuate it.’ That also needs to happen with Erik at some point. She has to see it through. It will always be something. They’ve got this energy between them. Even if Gertrude, Gwynevere — whatever her name is — comes into the fray, I do think they need a chance to see it through.”
5. Are Ty and Annie Dating in Season 4?
All signs (including the wedding PDA pictured here) point to yes! But the question is: How will the Magnolias handle two of their children dating each other?
“I think Dana Sue would love it, but she’s very protective, so it might cause some friction that Maddie and Dana Sue would have to work out,” Elliott theorizes. “Dana Sue loves Ty, and she holds him in high esteem, but I think she would look at him slightly differently if he’s dating her daughter. She would be a mama bear and would make him prove himself in a way he hasn’t had to do before.”
6. Is There a Sweet Magnolias Season 4 Trailer?
Unfortunately, no — Netflix has yet to release any new footage from Sweet Magnolias Season 4. But we promise we’ll let you know when they do!
7. Has Sweet Magnolias Been Renewed for Season 5?
No, a fifth season has not been ordered, so enjoy every last second with the Magnolias this time around — you just never know which way Netflix’s pendulum of fate is going to swing.
