Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge are remaking 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' for Amazon
Emmy winners Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge are joining their considerable talents to remake "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" into an Amazon series.
Glover ("Atlanta") and Waller-Bridge ("Fleabag") will play the title characters and serve as executive producers, Amazon Studios announced Friday. The 2005 film memorably paired Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who revealed their romantic relationship months after the film premiered.
Glover and Waller-Bridge teamed up previously in 2018's "Solo: A Star Wars Story," with Glover as Lando Calrissian and Waller-Bridge as droid L3-37.
“Talk about the dream team! Donald and Phoebe are two of the most talented creators and performers in the world. It’s truly a dream for us, as it will be for our global audience, to have these two forces of nature collaborating as a powerhouse creative team,” Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke said in a statement.
The series, produced by Amazon Studios and New Regency, will be available to Amazon subscribers in more than 240 countries and territories. New Regency produced the original film.
Friday's announcement did not include a premiere date or the number of episodes that will be produced.
The 2005 action film, which grossed $487 million worldwide, featured Pitt and Jolie as a bored married couple surprised to learn that they are each assassins working for competing organizations and assigned to kill each other. (After revealing their relationship following the release of the film, Pitt and Jolie were together until they separated in 2016. They later divorced.)
