Donald Trump blasts ABC; makes Roseanne Barr firing all about himself
There has been a ton of reactions to ABC’s decision to cancel its popular sitcom Roseanne after its star, Roseanne Barr, tweeted a racist comment about former Barack Obama staffer Valerie Jarrett.
The actress compared the African-American lawyer to an ape. ABC — owned by the Walt Disney Company — released a statement, saying, “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values.”
Although most praised the network for its quick response, President Donald Trump had a different and expected approach to the ordeal. Just as he did on Memorial Day, Trump tweeted a statement making Barr’s firing all about himself.
Bob Iger of ABC called Valerie Jarrett to let her know that “ABC does not tolerate comments like those” made by Roseanne Barr. Gee, he never called President Donald J. Trump to apologize for the HORRIBLE statements made and said about me on ABC. Maybe I just didn’t get the call?

Unfortunately, the president did not elaborate on which of ABC’s “HORRIBLE statements” he’s referring to; however, Trump has repeatedly had beefs with the network, as is well documented on Twitter.
In 2016, the president took offense with television host Tavis Smiley, who appeared on ABC’s This Week With George Stephanopoulos. In a tweet, Trump called out the network for allowing a “hater” and “racist” to “waste good airtime.”
Also in 2016, Trump tweeted a nasty remark to ABC’s The View, saying, “Whoopi Goldberg is terrible.”
Last year, he mockingly congratulated ABC for suspending investigative journalist Brian Ross, who had incorrectly reported on ABC News that Trump had directed his former top aide Michael Flynn to make contact with Russian officials before the 2016 presidential election. Trump called the “dishonest report” a “witch hunt.”
Even before he was president, Trump had issues with ABC’s programming, blasting the network for its popular show Black-ish. He wrote in 2014, “How is ABC Television allowed to have a show entitled ‘Blackish?’ Can you imagine the furor of a show, ‘Whiteish’! Racism at highest level?”
Barr has not yet responded to Trump’s comment regarding her firing from ABC, although she did retweet his statement. The actress and president have a special bond, however. Barr came under fire recently for her outspoken support of Trump just before the Roseanne reboot aired. Many decided to boycott the sitcom, but when ABC hit its highest ratings in six years, the president personally called the actress to congratulate her on the show’s success.
And yesterday, after vowing to quit Twitter, Barr returned to the network tweeting a response to users calling her “racist.” She empathized with Trump’s criticism on social media.
i feel bad for @POTUS-he goes thru this every single day.
