Donald Trump privately admitted his birther attacks were wrong, according to 'Morning Joe'
On Monday’s Morning Joe, co-host Mika Brzezinski revealed details from an apparent private conversation she and co-host, Joe Scarborough, had with Donald Trump about his birther comments.
“We confronted him about the birtherism,” Brzezinski said. “We said, ‘it’s bad, it’s wrong’ and he said in a low voice, ‘I know it’s bad but it works.’”
Trump’s attacks on former president Barack Obama’s birthplace began in 2011 and, despite the release of Obama’s birth certificate that same year, he didn’t concede until September of 2016. And Trump’s constant racist undertones such is that, is why Scarborough thinks democrats will have an edge at the polls on Tuesday.
“Donald Trump has reminded [voters] of Charlottesville every day over the last couple weeks and what does that do?” Scarborough said. “That inspires Democrats, independents, moderate and suburban Republicans to vote democratic.”
But Brzezinski, who along with Scarboroguh was known to be friendly with Trump before he ran for president, seems to think that Trump knows exactly what he’s doing when it comes to pushing the racial divide.
“Racism, in his mind, works,” Brzezinski said about Trump. “That’s what he told us.”
Morning Joe airs weekdays at 6 a.m. on MSNBC.
