Don't miss the final UWO Fond du Lac Campus theater production — and more can't-miss events this week

FOND DU LAC — From fundraising to a theater production, a variety of events are coming up this weekend.

This is your chance to help the Beacon House during its annual auction, take in the last university production at the Fond du Lac campus or celebrate Whisper Hill Clydesdale's 20th anniversary.

Here are five can't-miss events from the Fond du Lac area.

1. Beacon House holds annual auction to raise funds

The 25th annual Beacon House Auction will be open April 27 to 28. A preview party will be from 1 to 4 p.m. April 27 at the Beacon House, 166 S. Park Ave.

Funds raised help the organization provide no-income to low-income women with children, drug and alcohol addiction services. Some of the projects that need to be completed include a kitchen remodel and tuck-pointing in the basement and a new copier is needed.

Bidding will open at 8 a.m. April 27 and run through 4 p.m. April 28. Items can be viewed online at beacon2024.ggo.bid.

2. 'The Good Doctor' is the last show at Fond du Lac's UWO campus

The University of Oshkosh at Fond du Lac will perform its spring comedy, “The Good Doctor,” April 26 to May 4. Performances will be at the Prairie Theater, 400 University Ave. Show times are 7 p.m. April 26 and 27; 2 p.m. April 28; and 7 p.m. May 2, 3 and 4.

According to a news release, “The Good Doctor” takes place in turn-of-the-century Russia. A young writer welcomes the audience to join him as he brings to life eight short stories based on the writings of Anton Cheykov — with the comic genius of Neil Simon.

Tickets start at $5 at hometowntickets.com. The production is best enjoyed by those 12 and older.

UW Oshkosh will close its Fond du Lac campus in June, and this will be the last of university-produced shows offered.

3. Spring craft sale offers handmade arts for sale

Hand-crafted items will be available to purchase at the Springtime Splendor Art & Craft Expo, set for April 27. The sale will be open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds-Recreation Center, 520 Fond du Lac Ave.

More than 90 vendors will offer paintings, metal sculptures, wood workings, knit and crochet towels, bird feeders, soaps, jewelry and more.

Concessions and drawings will also be available throughout the day.

Admission is $2, with children 10 and younger admitted free with a paid adult.

4. Exhibits, tours part of Earth Day Fair at CSA

The Earth Day Fair is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 27 at the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes, 320 County K. Earth-focused exhibitors, tours, presentations, a raffle and other activities will be included.

New this year are the 45-minute presentations offered throughout the day, beginning at quarter past the hour. Topics include water treatment technologies, the Winnebago Wild Rice Revitalization Project, using eBird, the value of native plants and the Niagara Escarpment.

Exhibitors will offer a variety of information and guided tours including a solar array, bird walk and the land including the escarpment. Registration is recommended as space is limited. Visitors can also explore the property on their own.

Food will be available to purchase and there will be a raffle for a variety of prizes.

The morning of the fair, CSA associates will gather from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. to clean up their adopt-a-highway location. Meet at the park and ride lot at Winnebago Drive and State 151. RSVP is required at csasisters.org.
