Double Decker returns to Oxford after two-year hiatus
Feb. 4—OXFORD — Double Decker Arts Festival will return to Oxford for its 25th iteration in April, following a two-year hiatus because of COVID-19.
The weekend of April 22-23 will see the reprise of the Oxford tradition with performances by Ole Miss alumnus Brett Young, The Revivalists, and a number of other bands and musicians.
Kinney Ferris, Executive Director of Visit Oxford, said this year's return of Double Decker is long-awaited after the forced two-year break.
"It's been postponed and canceled and canceled again, and now we're here," Kinney said. "All of you here shows how excited our community is to get this festival underway."
Last year, Visit Oxford hosted pop-ups as a stand-in for the Double Decker Arts Festival proper. The last full festival was held in 2019.
Oxford Mayor Robyn Tannehill helped found the festival in 1995 while at Visit Oxford. With such a strong personal attachment to the event, Tannehill said she's eager to see the festival return.
"The Double Decker Arts Festival has been my baby for a very long time," the mayor said.
After more than two decades, she says the festival is bigger and better than ever.
"We've got a lot of great memories over 25 years, and this group is taking it to a new level," she said.
The festival is presented by the University of Mississippi Museum, Ole Miss Athletics, Ole Miss Student Activities Association, NE Spark, Nicholas Air and Specialty Orthopedic.
The 2022 festival's official art was created by Hannah McCormick, whose artwork was slated to be the insignia of the 2020 festival.
Double Decker Arts Festival will kick off with the annual Double Decker Spring Run on the morning of Friday, April 22 and continue with art, music and food through Saturday, April 23.
