Drake Mourns The Death Of Toronto Rapper And Friend Smoke Dawg
Drake’s euphoria from the release of his highly-anticipated double album Scorpion was shattered after learning friend and fellow Toronto rapper Smoke Dawg was shot and killed Saturday evening. (June 30)
According to preliminary reports, the 21-year-old rising artist was murdered outside the city’s Cube Nightclub at 8pm in the area of Queen Street West and Peter Street. Law enforcement states “multiple shots” were fired before two suspects fled the scene.
Two other victims, one man and a woman reportedly in her 30s were found in the vicinity and rushed to the trauma center.
After learning of Smoke Dawg’s death, Drake took to social media to share his condolences.

“I wish peace would wash over our city. So much talent and so many stories we never get to see play out. Rest up Smoke,” Drake wrote.
Giggs also took to social media to share his thoughts on Smoke Dawg, affectionately known as Smokie.

Smoke Dawg’s death follows a string of murders for young rappers across the nation. On June 18, XXXTentacion was robbed and fatally shot in Broward County, Florida and Pittsburgh rapper Jimmy Wopo was also killed the same day. Both rappers have since been laid to rest.
