Dreams Come True: Target to Serve Booze at New Chicago Location
The big-box chain inches one step closer to becoming utopia.
Target, which has long offered the thrills of inexpensive face wash and all the cereal you could ever want, is making moves to expand their offerings, namely by selling and serving alcohol.
Scheduled for an October opening in the Streeterville area of Chicago, the new Target has applied for a liquor license, with plans to serve tapas-style dishes and wine (glasses and bottles), taking cues from Starbucks’ new Evenings menu.
According to Eater, the Target outpost stated in its application that 18,884 square feet is the size of the area where “liquor will be sold, served and/or consumed.” The location will also offer wine and beer to be purchased for home consumption.

The best part? Customers will not be restricted in where they sip their booze — they’ll be allowed to carry their drinks with them as they shop around the whole store. (We imagine sales of Cheez-its and Hot Pockets will sky-rocket as a result.)
“We sell liquor at a number of stores, but we currently don’t have any stores that serve liquor on site,” Target Spokesperson Angie Thompson told Fortune. If the store’s current application is approved, it will be the first time Target has served alcohol, joining the ranks of bougier grocers, like Whole Foods and Wegman’s.

While Tagret spokespeople have yet to confirm that serving booze at the their stores will spread nationwide, we’re just thrilled to be a little bit closer to our dream of being pushed around in a Target cart, margarita in hand.
