With “Dune: Part 2” Now in Theaters, Here Are Some of the Wildest TikToks About the Viral Sandworm Popcorn Bucket
The popcorn bucket has made some fans laugh and others squirm ahead of the movie's theatrical release
Many Dune fans have been causing quite a stir on social media, thanks to a very unique AMC Theatres promotional item surrounding the recent release of Dune: Part Two.
A limited-edition popcorn bucket released in honor of the film — made out of a tin with a detachable lid that resembles the giant, toothy sandworms (or Shai-Hulud) of the desert planet Arrakis — has gone viral over recent weeks.
And among the most-liked and commented-on TikTok videos about the item are ones from people scratching their heads about having to slide their hands through the sandworm's teeth to access the popcorn inside the bucket.
"When someone orders the Dune 2 popcorn bucket with extra butter NO popcorn," the text over one hilarious video reads, as the person in the video mouths a line from The Walking Dead: "I know what kind of man you are."

In another clip with over 4 million views, user @lachlancrane acts out a scene in which he awkwardly asks a theater employee for one of the popcorn buckets.
"Do you want 'butter' on your popcorn?" the "employee" asks, holding up a tiny jar of petroleum jelly.
A third video seemingly taken from inside the bucket shows what the bottom of the bucket "sees" when someone reaches their finger inside, while a fourth features a girl reaching inside one of the items held by another theater patron.
"Oh my God, it's so creepy!" she says, quickly pulling out some of the popcorn.
The cast of the movie —including Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh and Austin Butler — is well aware of the AMC popcorn-bucket craze.
During a Feb. 1 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Zendaya, 27, joked, "I'm good, I'm okay," when host Jimmy Kimmel offered for her to reach inside one of the buckets to get some popcorn.
Chalamet, 28, jokingly pretended his arm was being eaten when he reached inside the bucket.
"That's not okay," Pugh, 28, said in response to seeing the item. "Who made that? That's not okay. That's wrong."
Public reaction to the popcorn bucket has involved a significant number of sex-related jokes, which the actors appeared to have some familiarity with during their Jimmy Kimmel Live appearance.
"The jokes write themselves," Zendaya said during the interview.
In a recently published interview with The New York Times, Chalamet weighed in on the collectible sandworm bucket alongside Denis Villeneuve, the writer-director of 2021’s Dune and its sequel.
“I don’t want to make stupid jokes right now that will I regret tomorrow morning,” Villeneuve, 56, told the outlet. “But I will say this. When I saw it, I went, ‘Hoooooly smokes.’ What the [expletive]!?"
Based on the 1965 sci-fi classic novel of the same name by author Frank Herbert, Villeneuve’s Dune adaptation features the epic worms that dominate Arrakis’ landscape and sometimes swallow its inhabitants whole.
As the French-Canadian director pointed out of the viral collectible item, “it created a lot of fun online. So maybe it’s positive? It’s some kind of … impressive design.”
Chalamet, who stars as Paul Atreides, joked, “I can’t tell if someone is at home right now going, ‘My design worked perfectly and everyone’s talking about it.’ Or if someone’s brutally offended by the response.”
Dune: Part Two is now playing in theaters.
