Steve Mnuchin's wife Louise Linton made a comedy with accused rapist Ed Westwick; Twitter's reaction: 'Hard pass'

Louise Linton, the Scottish actress best-known for being the third wife of U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin and flaunting her wealth on Instagram, is trying on another expensive hat: Hollywood auteur. Deadline reported today that Linton has written, directed and produced her first feature film, Me, You, Madness, in which she'll star alongside Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick. The comedy, about a thief (Westwick) who accidentally breaks into the home of a serial killer, is described in a quote from Linton as "every bit the playful '80s homage I dreamed of when I wrote it." The first photo of the film (which was shot last year in Malibu) shows Linton and Westwick sitting on a fancy sofa, him in ripped jeans and her in an evening gown, both bleeding from fake wounds.

Who, exactly, is this movie for? It's hard to say. Linton's biggest acting credit is a one-episode appearance on CSI: NY, and her best-known creative work is a memoir about Africa called In Congo's Shadow, which has been called out for fabrications and a stereotype-ridden "white savior" narrative. As for the photogenic Westwick, once considered a teen heartthrob, he lost a lot of his luster when he was accused of sexual assault by four women. (The charges were dropped by the Los Angeles County D.A. in 2018.)

Film fans on Twitter greeted the announcement of Me, You, Madness with something less than enthusiasm.

At least the film gave social media an excuse to repurpose its favorite Linton/Mnuchin memes.

Me, You, Madness is currently seeking distribution.
