Elizabeth Banks Won’t Direct ‘Pitch Perfect 3’
Elizabeth Banks, who had been attached to direct Universal’s Pitch Perfect 3, now will not be helming the third pic in the lucrative franchise. She will remain aboard as a producer and a co-star, as she has for the previous pics. The new movie was meant to shoot over the summer, and sources tell Deadline that Uni and the producers may end up back with Jason Moore, the director on the 2012 original film, which was produced for $17M and went onto gross $115.3M worldwide.
As for Banks, we’re told she had a wonderful time directing Pitch Perfect 2 — and it certainly stood out making $287.5 million last summer.
Kay Cannon penned the script for Pitch Perfect 3, which was just moved to a December 22, 2017 release date. Stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow are among those returning for the new one.
Variety first broke the news of Banks’ departure.
