Ella Emhoff Wore a Custom Dress by TikToker Joe Ando to the Final Day of the DNC
It was only a matter of time before Ella Emhoff, everyone's favorite Gen Z political style star (and stepdaughter of Vice President Kamala Harris) made a fashionable appearance at the Democratic National Convention. Though she's been known to make waves in luxury looks like her tartan, crystal-covered Miu Miu coat and preppy Thom Browne ensemble at the 2021 Presidential Inauguration, Emhoff switched things up for the final night of the DNC, wearing a lesser-known designer from her own generation.
For her speaking slot at the event, Emhoff wore a faded periwinkle dress by Joe Ando, a 28-year-old TikToker who has amassed more than 2.9 million followers on the platform by making dresses for his friends and other celebrities.
While standing alongside the Vice President's goddaughter Helena Hudlin and niece Meena Harris, Emhoff wore an off-the-shoulder corseted top accented by a white ruffle detail at the center, which fell into a flowing pleated midi skirt. The look was embellished by a crocheted rose at the side of her sleeve — a detail made by the knitting enthusiast herself.

Ando briefly documented the start-to-finish of the dress on his TikTok account, showing him selecting the specific fabrics with Emhoff and then watching his design grace the nationally televised stage.
The 25-year-old accessorized with her signature translucent eyeglasses, a single ring and an ultra-thin necklace, allowing the custom look to do all the talking. She completed the outfit with white scrunched socks and black Mary Jane flats.
