Ella Emhoff's Emotion During Stepmom Kamala Harris' Concession Speech Shows How Close Their Family Is
Earlier this afternoon, Vice President Kamala Harris bravely faced a crowd in her alma mater Howard University and delivered her concession speech following the 2024 presidential elections. Among the supporters in Washington, DC, were, of course, her family.
Alongside Second Gentlemen Doug Emhoff, his daughter Ella Emhoff and his son Cole Emhoff also showed their support. While the cameras focused on many other attendees during her speech, many of whom had tears running down their faces, whenever the camera would turn to Ella, she was clearly crying too.

In fact, in one moment captured on camera, the 25-year-old was so emotional that her dad gave her a sweet hug. In the photo below, alongside vice presidential nominee and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Cole is doing the same thing. If you ask us, there’s no greater example than a blended family sticking together during a tough time!
In her speech, Harris gave them a special shoutout too. “To my beloved Doug and our family,” the Vice President said. “I love you so very much.”
In the rest of her speech, Harris kept the tone optimistic, hopefully helping supporters like Ella to pause their tears (even if just for a bit).
“The light of America’s promise will always burn bright, as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting,” Harris said during her speech, encouraging the democratic party to continue fighting despite the disappointing election results. “This is not a time to throw up our hands. This is a time to roll up our sleeves.”
“On the campaign, I would often say, ‘When we fight, we win.’ But here’s the thing, sometimes the fight takes a while,” Harris said. “That doesn’t mean we won’t win.”
We’re sure supporters in attendance and at home were proud to have her as their democratic nominee, just like Ella must feel to have her as a stepmom.
