Elliot Page congratulated by celebrities, co-stars after announcing he's transgender: 'Profound love and admiration'
As he introduced himself to the world, actor Elliot Page received lots of love.
The Juno star announced Tuesday that he is a non-binary, transgender person.
His wife, Emma Portner, shared Page’s statement to her own page. Portner called her husband’s existence “a gift in and of itself" and added, “Shine on sweet E. Love you so much.”
Within a few hours, Page’s name had been changed on Netflix, where he stars in The Umbrella Academy. Variety reported that he would continue to play the role of Vanya Hargreeves, citing insiders who said there would be no change of gender for the female character.
Six hours after Page’s post on social media, more than 1.6 million people had “liked” his Instagram post. Those with recognizable names cheered him on in the comments.
Even his Netflix show about a family of superheroes congratulated him.
Several Umbrella Academy cast members expressed their support, too. Justin Min sent him a sweet message, “Welcome to the fam, Elliot.” Meanwhile, Marin Ireland said simply, “I love you Elliot.” David Castaneda kept it even shorter, posting “yes” and star emojis in his retweet of Page’s heartfelt letter.
They weren’t the only ones.
Musicians Tegan and Sara commended Page on his “strength, bravery and activism.”
Profound love and admiration for you @TheElliotPage !! Your strength, bravery and activism - not to mention all the art you contribute to this earth - is truly special. Thank you for being so open about your journey and for fighting so hard to make the world a better place. ???? https://t.co/2WLs0eT49v

I’ve never met Elliot Page, tho I’ve been at events & shyly waved. I’ve been a huge fan ever since “Juno” and - in real life - get nervous around people I adore. So I’ve just enjoyed his work - films & docs - from afar. Next time I’m not only saying hi, I’m saying “Thank you.” ??
