Blunt wowed on the red carpet in a beaded, champagne-colored Schiaparelli gown with floating shoulders that bewildered some fashion lovers. The straps on the embellished dress appeared to be suspended from the Oppenheimer stars shoulders, putting a unique twist on the otherwise classically elegant look.

However, as is always the way with red carpet gowns, the look was loved by some and criticized by others. The backlash hasn’t gone over well with Blunt’s stylist, Jessica Paster, who goes by @highheelprncess on Instagram. Paster has been feverishly defending the look on social media.

Paster joined fans in the comments section of popular fashion page Check The Tag, telling one critic: “U absolutely have no sophisticated taste.” And asking another: “I didn’t see you on the red carpet????”

On her own Instagram page, when one fan labelled the look “a miss,” prefacing that they are just a “mere mortal” who doesn’t have fashion expertise, Paster quipped back, “Well mere mortals shouldn’t respond …, I have no opinion on what u do!!!! Again … this is a fashion piece not a Walmart piece!!!”

Despite not winning an Oscar, losing to The Holdovers star Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Blunt looked undeniably stunning on the red carpet while posing for photos with husband John Krasinski, even if her dress itself wasn’t to everyone’s taste!

Props Paster for trying something boundary-pushing on the Oscars red carpet. The stylist defended the look in an interview with Vanity Fair after seeing some of the responses online.

“Sometimes we don’t play it safe. At this point of years of being with Emily, we can go have fun with fashion,” she said. “Did I know that people were going to talk about the shoulder? Absolutely. Do I care what anybody else has to say? Absolutely not. Me? I think that people that know fashion, like fashion, like things that are interesting, were going to like it and I know the people that like some things that are very classic were not going to like it. At the end of the day, she looked absolutely beautiful. It was such a beautiful dress.”

Paster explained that Blunt selected the final look on the morning of the award show, choosing from a narrowed-down selection of three dresses. “I think when you decide what you want to wear, I think something happens. It depends on your mood. One was colorful, one was diaphanous, one was white,” Paster said. She says the actress loved the look, “This is the one that spoke to her.”
