Emily Kinney joins Kyle Meredith to talk about her new album, Swimteam.
The actress/musician talks about reconnecting with the music of Rilo Kiley and Counting Crows, why she wrote a song called “Avett Brothers,” and the participation trophy she gave an ex through the lyrics of “B or C for Effort.” She also touches on how Cursive’s Tim Kasher gave her encouragement to keep pursuing music.
“I was like, ‘Yeah I think I’m done with writing songs for a little while. I think I’m just going to focus on my acting,'” she explains. “And then he was like, ‘No! No, you can’t! You can’t stop!'”
Kinney also talks about how her acting influences her songwriting (particularly in reference to The Walking Dead on “The Last Chance”), and keeping up with the shows she’s been on, including Masters of Sex.
