Eminem Announces Release of ‘The Death of Slim Shady’ Expanded Mourner’s Edition

True to theme, Eminem has a surprise in store for this Friday the 13th. The rapper has announced that he will release the Expanded Mourner’s Edition of his latest album “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace)” later this week, teasing the project with a trailer posted to X (formerly Twitter).

In the clip announcing the new release, Em walks into a convenience store and pulls a carton of milk out of the refrigerator. Only, he drops it onto the ground, revealing a missing ad on the side of the box featuring his alter ego Slim Shady. As he exits the store, producer Alchemist hops out from behind the store counter and tells him to never come back.

It’s unclear what will end up on the Expanded Mourner’s Edition of the album, though one can surmise it will feature new tracks — perhaps produced by Alchemist. The rapper initially released “The Death of Slim Shady” in July along with the singles “Houdini,” “Tobey” featuring Big Sean and Babytron, and “Somebody Save Me” with Jelly Roll.

“The Death of Slim Shady” marked the end of a chapter for Slim Shady, presented as a concept album that let his bawdy and crass alter ego out of the cage for one last hurrah. Shady has been a perennial figure in Eminem’s music from the start, with his more salacious material attributed to his evil counterpart.

Eminem has performed around the globe surrounding the album’s release, with shows in London, Detroit and Los Angeles. He’s slated to open the MTV Video Music Awards tomorrow night.
