Emmys: Ebon Moss-Bachrach (‘The Bear’) would be latest to win Best Comedy Supporting Actor twice
When it comes to the Emmy category of Best Comedy Supporting Actor, two seems to be the magic number. In recent years, Brett Goldstein (“Ted Lasso”), Tony Hale (“Veep”), Ty Burrell (“Modern Family”) and Eric Stonestreet (“Modern Family”) all won this race twice. That’s great news for last year’s Emmy winner, Ebon Moss-Bachrach (“The Bear”), who is now looking for his own bookend trophy in the category.
On FX’s cooking dramedy, he plays Richard “Richie” Jerimovich, the manager of the central restaurant and close friend of Jeremy Allen White‘s Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto. Moss-Bachrach has entered the Season 2 episode titled “Forks” as his 2024 Emmy Award submission for Best Comedy Supporting Actor.

In this installment, Richie is sent by Carmy to work for a week at a fine dining restaurant, Ever, to learn the ins and outs of management. That’s where Richie meets Andrea Terry (Olivia Colman), a kind executive chef who tells him all about how she overcame setbacks working in the cooking industry. Moss-Bachrach and Colman both earned Emmy bids for their performances within this fan-fave episode.
PREDICT the 2024 Emmy winners through September 15
For this 2024 Emmys contest, Moss-Bachrach is competing against Lionel Boyce (“The Bear”), Paul W. Downs (“Hacks”), Paul Rudd (“Only Murders in the Building”), Tyler James Williams (“Abbott Elementary”) and Bowen Yang (“Saturday Night Live”). Other than Moss-Bachrach and Downs (who won for writing “Hacks” in 2021), the other contenders are all hoping for their first victories this year.
“The Bear” received a whopping 23 total Emmy Award nominations for Season 2, including Best Comedy Series. Last year, it won a leading 10 trophies for series, lead actor (White), supporting actor (Moss-Bachrach), supporting actress (Ayo Edebiri), writing, directing, casting, picture editing, sound editing and sound mixing. Note that the third season recently streamed in June, but it won’t be eligible at the Emmys until next year.
The all-time champion in the Best Comedy Supporting Actor race is Don Knotts (“The Andy Griffith Show”) at five wins. John Larroquette (“Night Court”) and David Hyde Pierce (“Frasier”) are next in line with four victories apiece.
