'Empire' actor Bryshere Gray arrested on domestic violence charges
Empire actor Bryshere Y. Gray, also known as rapper Yazz the Greatest, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife.
Police in Goodyear, Ariz., said they responded to a 911 call about a woman who’d been beaten at her home by her husband, identified as Gray, at about 10:15 p.m. Sunday. The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she was treated and released. Police then went to Gray’s residence, where they said he refused to come out. They called in SWAT and crisis intervention teams, and he was taken into custody at about 7 a.m. Monday.
According to online records from the sheriff’s office, Gray was booked in Maricopa County Jail on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct. His arraignment is set for July 20.
Yahoo Entertainment has reached out to both Gray and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
The actor’s also known for playing Michael Bivins in BET’s 2017 movie The New Edition Story. He also appeared in the 2018 movies Sprinter and Canal Street.
But his signature role was that of Hakeem Lyon in Fox’s music industry drama. Gray appeared throughout all six seasons, from its January 2015 debut to its thrown-together finale in April. The show’s run was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic.
