Eva Mendes Reveals Her Favorite Ryan Gosling ‘SNL’ Sketches
Eva Mendes is revealing her favorite Saturday Night Live sketches from when her husband Ryan Gosling hosted the sketch comedy show earlier this year.
The actress stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday to promote her debut children’s book, Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries, but host Jimmy Fallon also had to ask her about the Barbie star’s “crazy” night on the NBC show during season 49 in April.

“I was so excited! I was backstage…it’s incredible,” Mendes said before revealing her two favorite sketches were “Can’t Tonight,” which saw Gosling play a man who had developed a Cuban accent after marrying a Cuban woman, and “Beavis and Butt-Head.”
“With Cuban Papi, the thing that was so funny is my dad actually doesn’t speak English, and this isn’t like oh, he speaks a little. No, he doesn’t speak English,” the 2 Fast 2 Furious actress told Fallon. “And he’s been in the country 50-something years. So when Ryan and him hang out, it’s very much like… [Mendes imitates how they communicate].”
She added, “So after what, 12 years, it finally paid off.”
After the SNL episode aired, Mendes, who is of Cuban descent and was born in Miami, also took to her Instagram at the time to praise Gosling for his performance. “My Cuban Papi made this Cuban Mami so happy with this,” she wrote on Instagram.
She also shouted out SNL castmembers Marcello Hernandez and Kenan Thompson, who played Gosling’s friends in the sketch. “Can’t wait for this trio’s next reunion,” Mendes added in her post.
The couple, who met while working together on 2012’s The Place Beyond the Pines, share two daughters, Esmeralda Amada, 9, and Amada Lee, 7. Over the years, they have continued to keep their relationship private, although they always find subtle ways to show their support for each other, including Mendes’ sweet Instagram post following Gosling’s “I’m Just Ken” Oscars performance earlier this year.
