Dancing With the Stars, The Irrational Among Fall Shows Affected by VP Debate
The Fall TV premiere season has been shaken up by the looming vice presidential debate.
Governor of Minnesota Tim Walz and U.S. Senator JD Vance agreed to face off at least once this fall, with both men accepting a Tuesday, Oct. 1 invitation from CBS News.

As a result, ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars will preempt an original episode on Oct. 1, then return for a special, two-night event the following week, with new episodes on Monday, Oct. 7 and Tuesday, Oct. 8. (This, in turn, will push back the season premieres of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, Press Your Luck and What Would You Do?, which will shift from Monday, Oct. 7 to Monday, Oct. 14.)
Fox, meanwhile, has pushed the Season 2 premiere of Howard Gordon’s Accused anthology back a week, to Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 8/7c.
The second episode of Fox’s new, Kristin Kreuk-led mystery drama Murder in a Small Town (which debuts Sept. 24) will still air on Oct. 1, but now at 8 pm (leading into the VP debate).
Similarly, NBC has confirmed that The Irrational‘s Season 2 premiere has been moved back a week to Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 10 pm, where it will still lead out of a two-hour installment of The Voice.
The CW, however, is sticking with its original Oct. 1 plan to launch — live from Chicago — WWE NXT, which is relocating from USA Network.
The 2024 Election debate season resumes on Tuesday, Sept. 10, when former President Trump faces off for the first time against new challenger Vice President Harris, with ABC News’ David Muir and Linsey Davis moderating from the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
