Here’s everything to know about season 14 of Blue Bloods.
When will season 14 of Blue Bloods air?
Shortly after Blue Bloods was renewed in March 2023, the writers' strike and actors' strike in Hollywood began, shutting down production on a vast majority of series and movies. The writers' and actors' strikes ended in October 2023 and November 2023, respectively.
According to CBS, season 14 premiered on Feb. 16, 2024. The 18-episode season will be split into two parts.
Who is returning for season 14 of Blue Bloods?
When season 14 was announced, it was clear that Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, Len Cariou, Marisa Ramirez and Vanessa Ray were all returning for the upcoming season.
Sadly, Treat Williams won’t be returning for the new season, as the actor died on June 12 after sustaining injuries from a motorcycle accident. Williams had a recurring role in the series as retired detective-turned-writer Lenny Ross.
Upon his death, Williams’ Blue Bloods costars honored the actor, with Moynahan telling PEOPLE, “His love and devotion to his family was one for all to admire. We lost a good one, folks. RIP Treat.”
How did season 13 of Blue Bloods leave off?
The finale of season 13 brought back a lot of Blue Bloods characters that haven’t been seen for a while. When infamous killer Dr. Walker begins another murdering spree, Danny (Wahlberg) re-teams with detective Jackie Curatola (Jennifer Esposito), who hasn’t been seen since season 3 and now lives in a small town. Dr. Walker attacks Jackie, but she fights him off, and he ultimately flees into the night.
Also in the episode, Erin (Moynahan) brings an abuser to justice after he was previously released, ultimately sentencing him to 25 years. Afterward, she announces to the press that she has decided not to run for DA.
The episode concludes with the iconic family dinner the show is known for and more familiar faces from previous seasons show up. At the dinner is Danny’s oldest son Jack (Tony Terraciano), who was last seen in the season 12 premiere, and Erin’s daughter, Nicky (Sami Gayle), who was last seen in season 11.
Will there be a Blue Bloods season 15?
Season 14 will be the final season of Blue Bloods.
“For the past 13 years it has been an honor and a privilege to work on a show that not only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City but also displayed the importance of family,” Selleck said in a statement. “Working alongside these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors and crew has been a dream come true and I’m grateful to have been a part of this extraordinary group for over 275 episodes.”
While talking to PEOPLE in early 2023, Wahlberg hinted that season 14 could be the last.
"I love Blue Bloods, and I think if there weren't a season 14, the loyal fans of the show would be very, very outraged," he said. “If the show were to go away without [the audience] having a proper sendoff ... I think they would be mortified. They're part of the Reagan family."
