Ewan McGregor Teases Return as Obi-Wan
After Ewan McGregor said Obi-Wan Kenobi was meant to have a movie, the actor has reiterated he's definitely down to reprise his role in the Star Wars universe.
McGregor, who first played a younger version of the iconic Alec Guinness character in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, said he’s ready and willing to enter the Star Wars universe once more.
“I really do hope we get a chance to do another one,” he tells Variety. “Between where we ended off in the series and when Alec Guinness comes on screen with Luke Skywalker, I think there’s another few stories to tell in there.”
We last saw McGregor as the elder Jedi in 2022 Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi. Now, 25 years on from his first appearance, he’s around the same age Guinness was in 1977’s Star Wars. “I loved, more than anything, getting to know Alec Guinness’ work because I was playing him as a young man,” he says. “Even now with the series, that’s my personal challenge — if a take feels a bit like him, I’m happy.”
McGregor starred with Hayden Christensen, who played his apprentice Anakin Skywalker in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Could the pair ever reunite? Christensen, for one, is up for it. “If it means that I got to do more with Ewan,” he said, “then that’s a no-brainer, but I really hope that he continues with the character. Just as a fan, it’s so exciting to get to watch him play Obi-Wan — he’s just so good at it.”
Today, fittingly for the Star Wars legend, McGregor receives his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
