For Ford, the five-time Grammy nominee’s latest album (due March 31 via the Mascot Label Group) features many collaborations to go with his own guitar heroics: Allman Brothers guitarist and Gov’t Mule frontman Warren Haynes, slide guitar guru Sonny Landreth, Americana and blues musician Keb’ Mo’, and pedal steel master Robert Randolph. His collaboration with Ward struck a particular chord. Check out the video below to hear Ford describe how the partnership came about:
“Soul music is the connection we share, and I love her voice,” Ford says. “We talked, met and then wrote together. ‘Breath Of Me’ came out of that meeting and hers is the only collaboration on the new record that was actually done live, in-studio. It’s one of my favorite things on the new record.”
Ford is currently wrapping up a European tour and plans to play Los Angeles’ Grammy Museum March 30. After that, he begins a spring North American tour April 10 in Fort Worth, Tex. Later this summer, he’ll also host his second Robben Ford Traveling Dojo Guitar Camp at the Full Moon Resort in the Catskill Forest Preserve in Big Indian, NY. There, guitar novices and enthusiasts will be able to learn from the man himself and watch live performances.
