Experts slugfest: Our final 2024 Emmy winner predictions
Can anything stop “Shōgun,” The Bear” and “Baby Reindeer” from dominating Sunday’s Emmys? Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here with their final Emmy predictions.
The short answer is no. The three series favorites remain the favorites after the Creative Arts Emmys, where they each took home the important casting and editing combo. “Shōgun,” of course, won 14 awards altogether to dethrone “John Adams” as the most awarded program ever before even getting to main ceremony. It can’t go seven for seven on Sunday since it’s not nominated in drama supporting actress, but will it got six for six? Its most competitive category is arguably drama supporting actor, where fan fave Tadanobu Asano faces former champ Billy Crudup. Can the “Morning Show” star stop “Shōgun” from winning every acting category in which it’s nominated?

Meanwhile, “The Bear” took home seven Creative Arts, three more than last year, putting more daylight between it and “Hacks” in the Best Comedy Series race. “Hacks” was blanked at Creative Arts, but don’t fret. It also won zero at Creative Arts for its first season before bagging three trophies at the main ceremony. Can it pull that off again? Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder remain the odds-on favorites in their acting categories, while “Hacks” is nipping at “The Bear’s” heels in writing, though that was also way closer before Sunday.
Elsewhere, we’re still unsure WTF will happen in that pesky limited/TV movie supporting actor race and wonder if Alan Cummings‘ upset win over RuPaul for reality host is a sign of things to come.
