Anna Delvey isn’t really a fan of The View. The new Dancing With the Stars Season 33 contestant is responding to the backlash over her casting on the competition show, and she’s not mincing words. Delvey, in particular, had something to say to Whoopi Goldberg, who sharply criticized Delvey’s addition to the Dancing With the Stars cast after news broke that she was given clearance by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to compete on the show amid her house arrest.

“I think back to all the families who’ve had family members arrested by ICE, who have gone to the courts to get their dad or their mother or their brother back,” Goldberg said on The View. “And this woman, they gave her permission to go do this. Now, should I think there’s a reason. Is there a two-tiered system here with ICE?”

Goldberg wasn’t the only one to take issue with Delvey’s appearance on the show, with Sunny Hostin adding “What’s the consequence” of her crimes? “A bejeweled ankle monitor — a federal bejeweled ankle monitor — and then a spot on a television show?”

Delvey’s answer was swift. “While you are entitled to your own opinions, you should at least get your facts straight,” she wrote in a comment to a video of the segment posted by the show on X. “I served my time and paid everyone back in full 3+ years ago. Looking forward to your on-air correction.”

Anna Delvey’s story was famously documented in the Netflix series Inventing Anna, which went over how she posed as a wealthy heiress for years while defrauding banks, hotels, and actual wealthy individuals out of approximately $275,000. She was arrested in 2017 and, two years later, in 2019, was found guilty on eight charges, which included second-degree grand larceny, theft of services, and first-degree attempted grand larceny.

Delvey was sentenced to four to 12 years in prison. She served three before being released on good behavior in February 2021. She is now under house arrest.

Fan reaction to the casting has been mostly negative, with comments on the DWTS Reddit forum ranging from “I am not watching it this season because I am not interested in watching criminals, who hurt people, thrive,” to “Idk if they’re trying to get more attention or what, but casting people like her is trashy. I used to love this show.” There are even calls to boycott the season altogether, with one fan saying “Let’s all boycott, I’m not watching the show until she’s eliminated.” It remains to be seen if those calls to boycott will have any actual effect on the show’s ratings.

The new celebrity Dancing With the Stars contestant spoke to PEOPLE just after her casting was announced about possible controversy over her casting and said “It’s just not that serious. If someone is that upset about casting on a dancing show, I don’t know what to tell them.”

Delvey will be paired with new pro Ezra Sosa.
