'Faith Under Fire' exclusive trailer: See Toni Braxton as real-life hero Antoinette Tuff
Grammy Award-winning singer Toni Braxton has added a new movie to her acting résumé with the Lifetime film Faith Under Fire: The Antoinette Tuff Story. She stars as a struggling single mom who uses compassion and faith to avert a mass shooting after a man with a history of mental illness storms an elementary school armed with an assault rifle.
Faith Under Fire is based on the terrifying true story that took place in 2013 at the Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy in Atlanta. Antoinette, the school’s bookkeeper, was confronted by Michael Hill (played by Trevor Morgan), a mentally ill man who stormed the elementary school armed with an AK-47 and 500 rounds of ammunition. Tuff had been suffering from depression and was considering suicide on the day she came face-to-face with Hill, but her empathy for the gunman ultimately saved hundreds of students and staff members as she convinced him to surrender.
In addition to Braxton and Morgan, Faith Under Fire stars Yaya DaCosta (Whitney) as 911 operator Kendra McKay, Malik Yoba (Empire) as Lieutenant Franklin, and Shalaby Omar (Doubt) as Antoinette’s son Derrick.
Toni Braxton previously starred in the 2013 TV movie Twist of Faith and the 2016 Lifetime biopic Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart, which drew record ratings for the network.
Faith Under Fire: The Antoinette Tuff Story premieres Saturday, Jan. 27, at 8 p.m. on Lifetime.
