Fans Assure Tim McGraw He’s ‘Still a Stud’ Despite 20-Year-Old Prediction
Tim McGraw intended to take a trip down memory lane with a throwback video he shared on social media earlier today, but instead, he unintentionally went fishing for compliments.
After digging around in the archives, the 57-year-old country crooner turned actor uncovered a 20-year-old interview discussing his career, which was about a decade in the making at that point.
"When you've done this as many years as you have," the reporter began in the 2004 clip before McGraw interrupted, asking, "What are you trying to say?"
"Getting old, man," someone joked off-camera.
"I am getting old," McGraw, who was in his mid-to-late 30s at the time, chuckled. "I can feel it."
Getting the conversation back on track, the interviewer asked the "One Bad Habit" singer how he "keeps that fire going."
"What keeps the fire going for me is wanting to get better," McGraw said in the throwback footage he uploaded to his Instagram grid on Thursday, Sept. 12. "I still think that I'm just scratching the surface of what I want to do. I mean, I still think I'm learning every day. I learn from other people every day."
"And that's the impetus for me to want to go out there and do it every time, is to try and get better. Try to prove to myself that I can get better," he added, joking that "there will come a point where I'll probably, I won't be able to do any more. And when that day comes, hopefully, I'll know and I'll be able to go fishing, turn into Elvis [Presley] and get fat."
McGraw reiterated: "One day, I will be fat and fishing. I promise it."
While the Grammy winner seemed adamant that at some time in the future, he would retire from touring and spend his free time enjoying the fruits of his labor, two decades later, he doesn't seem ready to let it all go.
"Crazy looking back at these interviews from 20 years ago. Still learning…not ready to get fat yet!! ??," he joked in the caption.
The comments soon erupted with support from fans gushing over McGraw's charisma, both back then and now.
"Instead, you’re still a stud, you became fit, continue touring & are a fantastic actor!" one top-liked reply read. "Obsessed with 1888! ??."
"I think you're getting better [and] better, and you're definitely aging in reverse!" a second declared. "I'm trying to follow that example myself!"
"Even more handsome 20 years later ??," someone else confessed.
"You’ve come [a long] way, Tim. From quitting alcohol to getting physically fit. You are a testament to wanting better and better. I follow you for the inspiration and positivity you bring to life," another lauded. "Keep going. ??????."
"Tim, you have aged like fine wine! Keep doing what you’ve been doing," a fourth declared. "57 looks damn sure good on you! ????????????."
"Sounds like a song hook to me," another fan quipped. "'Fat & Fishin.'"
