Fans blast Emmys 'In Memoriam' for including John McCain, ignoring Mac Miller
“In Memoriam” segments during awards shows seldom leave everyone satisfied and that was the case at this year’s Emmys too.
Fans were outraged at the exclusion of Mac Miller, who died earlier this month at age 26 of a suspected overdose. The rapper and well-respected lyricist wasn’t just a figure in the music industry but, as many pointed out, starred in his own MTV2 reality show, Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family, for two seasons from 2013 to 2014.
Honestly it’s shady they didn’t put Mac Miller in the In Memoriam part of the Emmys like he had his own show smh

can’t believe that Mac Miller was not included in the emmys memorium for people lost this year when many singers/songwriters were included.

Why wasn’t #MacMiller mentioned in the In Memoriam? #Emmys

#Emmys Mac Miller wasn’t worth mentioning? Wow. Hollywood is trash.

Sad that The #Emmys did not honor @MacMiller alongside the other artists and influential figures who have passed this year.

I think it’s weird and sad that they didn’t mention #macmiller in that memorium . He was a singer and a performer, and definitely should’ve been included. #emmys

The “In Memoriam” segment included entertainment professionals both in front of and behind the camera. Among those honored were singers and songwriters like Aretha Franklin, TV personalities like Anthony Bourdain, and notable figures, such as John McCain — which made Miller’s snub even more baffling for some.
So the #emmys had everyone in their memoriam, including singers and politicians, but somehow didn’t include Mac Miller 🤔

Did they really just skip Mac miller and not give him a tribute? Yes he was a singer and not an actor but they did a tribute to Aretha Franklin and McCain who was just a politician so…what’s up? #Emmys

@RealCandaceO Umm, why did the #EmmyAwards2018 just include John McCain in their Memoriam montage? Did I miss something? Are we honoring ALL the deceased politicians?

Somebody explain to me *why* John McCain got a spot on the In Memoriam at the Emmys?

Ariana Grande, who split with Miller earlier this year, was set to attend the Emmys tonight with fiancé Pete Davidson but ultimately decided not to go 10 days after her ex-boyfriend’s death. “Pete has also opted to not attend to be with her in New York,” her team told People ahead of the show.
“Given the events of the past couple of years, Ariana is going to take some much-needed time to heal and mend,” her team added. “She will be staying close to home and using this period to spend time with her loved ones and work on new music without deadline. She thanks her fans for their understanding.”
