Fans Declare Carrie Underwood's New Song Collab Will 'Destroy the Country Charts'
Carrie Underwood teamed up with country singer Cody Johnson for a new duet—and fans are convinced it will be a massive hit.
On Sept. 23, Johnson told his Instagram followers about the upcoming track "I'm Gonna Love You" and music video, explaining that he “can’t wait for y’all to see it, it’s one of my favorite music videos to date."
Fans declared in the comments that they had “Goosebumps ??,” predicting the collaboration would “destroy the country charts.”
“This is going to be a winner!" another wrote in response to the teaser clip.
Meanwhile, someone else commented “When two of your favourite singers collaborate ??????????,” on an earlier post previewing more of the music video.
“From the moment I heard this song, I heard Carrie’s voice on it. It was a non-negotiable for me; either we sing it together, or I wouldn’t sing it at all. It’s that special to me,” Johnson said in a news release about the American Idol alum. “Working with Carrie has been an absolute pleasure. She’s not only one hell of a singer, but she’s a class act all the way around.”
The “Before He Cheats” songstress equally praised the “Dirt Cheap” singer, sharing that “from the time I first heard his voice, I knew Cody had something special.” The duo first met backstage at the 2022 CMT Music Awards.
Johnson said in a conversation with Underwood that even though the two “are around the same age, I always grew up listening to your music.” He continued, noting that “they say don’t meet your heroes because you might get disappointed, and I was not disappointed. It’s a breath of fresh air to meet someone that fame hasn’t affected and that is really staying grounded.”
“I’m Gonna Love You” premieres Friday, Sept. 27 and is the first single off Johnson’s upcoming album, which is slated to come out later this fall.
