As a father, Snoop Dogg rates himself ‘a 7-plus’
Snoop Dogg is a rapper, entrepreneur, 2024 Olympic Games correspondent and the father of four children.
The artist, who was born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., has been married to high school sweetheart Shante Taylor since 1997, and the couple have three children together: Cordé, Cordell and Cori. He also has a son, Julian, from a previous relationship.
When visiting TODAY in 2015, Snoop rated himself as a father ... and kept it humble. “I think I’m about a 7-plus,” he said in his typical low-key, mellow voice. “I’ve got three things that I can work on.”
He added, “My relationship with my kids is more important than anything. It’s a friendship relationship ... it’s based on me being a father, a mentor and a friend.”
Who is Snoop's wife, Shante Taylor?
According to People, Snoop and Shante attended the prom together at Long Beach Polytechnic High School in California. He revealed the secret to their longtime happiness in a 2023 TODAY interview.
“I think because we were both young and we were both willing to sacrifice for each other. She knew what my dreams and goals was, and at the same time, I knew what hers were,” Snoop said.
“To have a family and to be who we are ... we both wanted to get to that goal, and when we reached it, it was hard, definitely, because you got so many different things pulling you away from marriage, and people divorcing every other day. But when you truly love somebody, there ain’t nothing you can do to break that up and I feel like that was true love at first sight.”
Taylor acts as Snoop's business manager, overseeing his music and acting projects, as well as his multiple brand partnerships.
Cordé Broadus, 30
Snoop and Taylor became parents when their oldest son, Cordé Broadus, was born in August 1994.
Like his father, Cordé is making music. He performs under the stage name Kalvin Love.
With his ex-girlfriend Jessica Kyzer, Cordé had a son named Zion in 2012, making Snoop a grandfather. Cordé went on to have three more children with his longtime girlfriend Soraya Love: sons Leo, Kai and Sky, and daughter Elleven.
Kai died just 10 days after his birth, reported People.
“My son did all he needed to do in his 10 days here on earth. He has now graduated and continuing to do work,” Cordé shared on Instagram at the time. “He died in my arms and that feeling of energy will never leave me. Kai wants all of you to know he’s doing great and wants to continue to inspire those whose light is dim.”
Cordell Broadus, 27
Cordell Broadus was born on Feb. 21, 1997, and like his father, he has many diverse interests.
He committed to playing football for UCLA in 2015, but left the team before training camp ended that year.
According to the LA Times, UCLA coach Jim Mora gave a statement that read, “Cordell informed me yesterday that he has decided to pursue other passions in his life — in particular his love of film through his company Film School Productions. Cordell is an amazing young man with many talents, and we wish him nothing but the best as he continues to pursue his degree at UCLA.”
Cordell appeared with his father and Wiz Khalifa in the 2012 comedy "Mac & Devin Go to High School" and he released the single “Bron and Bronny” under the name Champ Medici. (You can hear Snoop on the track, too.)
Again with his father, Cordell launched the video gaming studio Death Row Games. He also has a variety of business partnerships, investments, philanthropies — and he even opened a restaurant named Bored Taco.
Cordell shares three young daughters — Cordoba, Chateau and Symphony Sol — with his girlfriend Phia Barragan.
Julian Corrie Broadus, 26
Laurie Helmond gave birth to Snoop's son Julian Corrie Broadus on June 18, 1998.
He is a video creator who has been active in the tech space.
Julian doesn't share many photos with his dad, but he did post a throwback photo on Instagram in 2018 along with the caption: "Paved the way so I can do anything I wanted."
Cori Broadus, 25
Born on June 22, 1999, Cori Broadus is Snoop's only daughter.
Cori is a singer and musician and has released music under the stage name Choc. She also appeared on Snoop’s 2013 album “Reincarnated,” on the track “No Guns Allowed” along with Drake. In 2020, she released a music video for her song “With You,” which features her boyfriend, Wayne Duece.
She is also the CEO of Choc Factory, a company that specializes in body oils and cosmetic products. The company name was inspired by her father’s nickname for her growing up.
In January 2024, Cori shared on Instagram that she experienced a stroke.
“I’m only 24 what did I do in my past to deserve all of this?” she wrote.
Diagnosed with lupus at age 6, Cori has been open about her health battle, as well as her struggle with depression. The autoimmune condition causes inflammation, which can lead to permanent damage in the skin, joints, heart, lungs, kidneys, blood cells and brain, according to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases.
“I want to be OK,” Broadus told People in September 2023. “You’re not going to always be OK, and that’s OK because we’re human, but I want to be OK overall, mentally, physically. And we’re going to get there.”
