By Thursday afternoon, only a handful of tickets remained available for "a dope night" with one of the world's most respected cellists, the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra announced.

Yo-Yo Ma is set to take the Buddy Holly Hall stage Saturday at 7:30 p.m. for a performance with the Lubbock Symphony. Fewer than 50 tickets were still available by noon.

Ma and the orchestra will play several selections from Czech composer Antonín Dvo?ák, including his Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104.

The cellist, largely considered one of the greatest musicians of all time, was last in Lubbock a dozen years ago, in 2012. Tuesday will be his debut at the celebrated Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences.

Following Ma's 2012 performance, Avalanche-Journal critic William Kerns described Ma's technique as "faultless."

"His mastery was undeniable," Kerns wrote. "In the briefest of terms, Yo-Yo Ma lived up to every ounce of hype that preceded his appearance. One need look not at the audience, but at all of the LSO string players who shared the stage, to witness a shared sense of awe, appreciation and the sort of happiness one is more apt to find in children upon discovering proof of Santa's visit on Christmas morning."

The remaining tickets for Saturday's performance are available at lubbocksymphony.org. Seats for a pre-concert dinner are also available at the orchestra's website. A silent auction fundraiser, featuring a commissioned painting by Karla Man, a meet-and-greet with Ma and more, will be open until 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
