Film Bridge After Dark Sets ‘Helloween’ As First Film On Genre Slate With Shogun Films
EXCLUSIVE: Film Bridge After Dark and Shogun have set British horror pic Helloween as the first title on their joint slate of genre pics. The film is written and directed by Phil Claydon (Lesbian Vampire Killers) and stars Jeanine Nerissa Sothcott (Renegades), Michael Paré (Streets of Fire), and Ronan Summers (Code Of Silence) It’s currently in post-production. Film Bridge will be selling the movie worldwide at Cannes. Set during the sinister “killer clown” craze of 2016, Doctor Ellen Marks (Sothcott), aided by investigative journalist John Parker (Paré), traces the source of the phenomena to one of her patients – incarcerated, charismatic serial killer Carl Cane (Summers) who is using the insidious clown symbolism to recruit an army of the disenfranchised and launched a murderous anarchist movement from London across the globe.

European Film Academy Adds Record 709 New Members
The European Film Academy has added 709 new members, an academy record. New members include Cate Blanchett (Australia/UK), Jovan Marjanovi? (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Maria Bakalova (Bulgaria), Juraj Leroti? (Croatia), Anna Hints (Estonia), and Ariane Toscan du Plantier (France). Among the new members, 49% are women and 50% are men. Most new members stem from Germany (114), Italy (58), Greece (50), the UK (50), Switzerland (37), France (36) and Poland (36), but also numerous members have joined from Spain (26), Czech Republic (26), Ukraine (24), Romania (23), and Turkey (20). In total, members from 44 countries joined the European Film Academy. The European Film Academy has over 5,000 members in 52 countries.
Good Deed Entertainment Partners With TARF Media’s Eoghan Burke
EXCLUSIVE: Good Deed Entertainment (GDE) announced today that Eoghan Burke, Managing Director of the Dublin-based sales agency TARF Media, has partnered with GDE’s international sales team ahead of Cannes 2024. Burke joins Erik Donley, GDE’s Executive Vice President of Acquisitions, in leading efforts to expand the company’s growing library of original titles for the international market.
Writers Guild Of Canada Elects New President
Following the news that the Writers Guild of Canada (WGC) has struck a new Independent Production Agreement with the Canadian Media Producers Association, the union now has a new President. Montreal-based writer/showrunner Bruce Smith has been elected by the WGC council to lead the 2,500-strong guild. His two-year term will begin on May 1. Smith was the creator and writer of Street Legal for CBC, and was showrunner on crime drama 19-2 and comedy Cracked on CBC. He will be responsible for setting policies and overseeing guild activities. WGC Executive Director Victoria Shen praised Smith, saying: “We have worked closely together over the past few months during our negotiations with producers. He is a fierce advocate for screenwriters across the country.” In addition, Central Region member Amanda Smith was elected as WGC Vice President, and Atlantic Region member Michael Amo was re-elected as Treasurer. Other WGC council members include Jeremy Boxen, Anthony Q. Farrell, Sarah Dodd and Jason Filiatrault.
Animation Veteran Joins God’s Gang Advisory Board
EXCLUSIVE: God’s Gang Ltd., the production company behind animation series God’s Gang led by former Disney Channels executive Nimrod Avraham May, had added former Nickelodeon Senior Vice President, DreamWorks Head of Physical Production and Sony Pictures Animation VP Production Mark Taylor to its advisory board. He will oversee timelines, deliveries and quality processes for episodes of God’s Gang that are currently in production, along with development and production of future eps. He joins a board also comprising Bruce Daitch, former COO and CFO of DreamWorks Animation and VP of Animation at Netflix; Sheri Conn, former Vice President of Marketing at Disney and Head of Worldwide Television Brand Marketing at DreamWorks Animation; and Bruno Zarka, President of Distribution and Co-Production for Toonz Media Group.
