The First Ever 'Golden Bachelor' Couple Is Getting a Golden Divorce
Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist
The first-ever Golden Bachelor couple, Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist, are getting divorced. The news comes just months after they got married during a televised wedding that aired Jan. 4.
Speaking with Good Morning America's Juju Chang on Friday, Gerry shared, "Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation, so forth and—and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage."
When Chang asked if that meant they were getting a divorce, Gerry confirmed.
So much for finding love on TV!
But, actually, Theresa doesn't want anyone to lose hope that they, too, might find love later in life.
“We have received so much love and support from so many people who watched ‘The Golden Bachelor,’ and I don’t think we can tell you how many people told us that it gave them so much hope,” she said. “We want none of that to change for anybody.”
So what went wrong? From the sounds of it, the couple couldn't get on the same page about where to live. “We looked at homes in South Carolina, we considered New Jersey, and we just looked at homes after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision," Theresa said.

As Gerry put it, “... we look at these situations and I think we just feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to, to live apart.”
But that's not to say they don't still love each other. "There’s no doubt in my mind, I still am in love with her," Gerry said. "I root for her every day.”
Theresa agreed, if not quite so wordily, which is the Gerry way. "Yeah, I still love him," she said.

Prior to Gerry and Theresa's Golden Wedding, The Hollywood Reporter released a scathing exposé suggesting Gerry's wholesome image as a widower who'd been pining for love since his wife of 43 years died suddenly in 2017 might have been a bit misleading. Specifically, the outlet interviewed a woman who claimed to have had a nearly three-year relationship with reality-TV bachelor.
But that bombshell reveal had nothing to do with Gerry and Theresa's split, according to the exes.
“Gerry had already discussed that with me,” Theresa said. "He had explained it to me before the report was ever released, so we were good with that.”
