Five things to know about WWE Backlash Saturday on the Peacock app
It's been a whirlwind month for the WWE since WrestleMania 39 just a month ago. The company was sold to UFC owner Endeavor. The WWE draft shook up the rosters for both brands. The shock of Cody Rhodes losing in the main event of WrestleMania to Roman Reigns still has fans debating the outcome. The focus returns to the ring Saturday as the Backlash premium live event streams on Peacock beginning at 7 p.m. There is plenty to be excited about. Grammy Award-winning recording artist Bad Bunny is set to step in the ring for a singles match while Rhodes looks to get back on the winning track against Brock Lesnar. Here are five reasons to watch WWE Backlash.
BAD BUNNY TAKES TO THE STREETS
Grammy Award winning recording artist Bad Bunny will step in the ring for a San Juan Street Fight against a fellow native of Puerto Rico in Damian Priest. Ironically, Bad Bunny and Priest are former tag team partners. That friendship went out the window when Bad Bunny stopped Priest and the Judgement Day faction from helping Dominik Mysterio in his match against his father at WrestleMania. Bad Bunny hasn't wrestled many matches but has shown himself to be a good athlete capable of some incredible moves in his limited ring time. The 6-foot-5 Priest is incredibly mobile for his size. Expect a hot crowd and an incredible effort from both of these men.
REDEMPTION FOR CODY RHODES
Cody Rhodes losing at WrestleMania to Roman Reigns was quite a shock to many, including myself. Things got no better for Rhodes the night after WrestleMania when Brock Lesnar turned on him in a tag team match and decimated him. Lesnar was thought to be perhaps finishing up with the company after WrestleMania but that no longer appears to be the case. Rhodes needs a win here to recapture momentum and keep him in the forefront of the minds of fans. This could give Rhodes momentum as a chance to enter a tournament to claim a WWE World Heavyweight Champion for the Raw television program on USA looms.
BAD BLOOD(LINE)
Things have not been running smoothly for Roman Reigns and the Bloodline since WrestleMania. He was able to retain his Undisputed Universal Championship but his cousins Jimmy and Jey Uso saw there record-setting reign as tag champions come to an end at the hands of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Tension has been palpable between Reigns and his cousins since with Solo Sikoa seemingly siding with Reigns. The three will have to get on the same page quickly as they are slated to face Owens, Zayn and the returning Matt Riddle. The biggest conflict for the Bloodline in this match may come from within.
JUDGEMENT DAY FOR ZELINA VEGA
The Judgement Day is involved in another key showdown on Saturday as Latino World Order member Zelina Vega challenges Rhea Ripley for the SmackDown Women's Championship. Ripley is perhaps the most dominant force in all of women's wrestling right now and all of her matches demand attention. This many not strictly be a one-on-one match. The Judgement Day and LWO factions will likely be out in force to support their teammates at ringside.
THE SKY IS FALLING
I said Ripley was arguably the most dominant force in women's wrestling right now. Bianca Belair is the reason why the answer isn't clear cut. Who you consider to be the best as a performer ultimately comes down to preference and both have a strong argument. Hopefully one day it gets settled in the ring. Belair has held the Raw Women's Championship longer than any other women's wrestler in history but will face a stiff challenge from Iyo Sky. Sky established herself as a top talent in Japan long before coming to WWE. Sky is comfortable attacking from the top rope and moves effortlessly. This is another top of the line women's match.
