Floriana Lima Joins ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 21 Cast (Exclusive)

A new face will soon be walking the halls of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

Floriana Lima, most recently seen on A Million Little Things, has been added to the season 21 cast in a recurring role. She’ll play Nora, a childhood friend of Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Megan Hunt’s (Abigail Spencer), who comes to Grey Sloan when a routine operation at another hospital results in dangerous complications.

Nora is described as a devoted mother and recent divorcée who is determined to do whatever it takes to survive so that she can be there for her children and experience the next chapter of her life.

She’ll make her Grey’s introduction in the second episode of the upcoming season, airing Oct. 3. Grey’s returns Sept. 26 at 10 p.m. on ABC, streaming the next day on Hulu.

In addition to her role opposite James Roday Rodriguez’s Gary on ABC drama A Million Little Things, Lima previously appeared in Netflix and Marvel’s The Punisher opposite Jon Bernthal; with Melissa Benoist in The CW’s Supergirl from Greg Berlanti, where she starred as special crimes investigator Maggie Sawyer, one of the first openly gay characters in mainstream comics; and on ABC thriller The Family. She will next be seen starring alongside Zachary Levi and Josh Duhamel in Joe Carnahan’s Not Without Hope adaptation. She is repped by Gersh and Amplified Management.

For a refresher, the season 20 finale left off with a happy ending for Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Nick (Scott Speedman). After averting a potential professional crisis with her and sister-in-law Amelia’s (Caterina Scorsone) Alzheimer’s research, Meredith revealed to Nick that she put an offer on a house just outside of Boston for the two of them, and her children, to make a home.

The plotline ushered in the news that Pompeo will be doing more rounds when TV’s longest-running primetime medical drama returns. After taking a step back from Grey’s in recent seasons to work on her next Hulu series Natalia, inspired by the true story of Natalia Grace, the star and executive producer — who has played Dr. Meredith Grey since the Shonda Rhimes-produced ABC series launched in 2005 — will be back for more episodes when season 21 returns. Viewers will see Pompeo in at least seven episodes, and she will continue her role as the show’s primary narrator.

In a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Rhimes spoke about her current involvement in the series, which now has showrunner Meg Marinis at the helm, and (some) plans ahead. “When it’s going to end? I don’t know,” she teased.
