Foo Fighters and Billy Idol Cover The Sex Pistols’ ‘Pretty Vacant’
The Foo Fighters brought Billy Idol to the stage for a rollicking cover of the Sex Pistols’ “Pretty Vacant” during Jazz Aspen Snowmass on Sunday night.
While headlining the Labor Day weekend event, Idol joined frontman Dave Grohl while singing the 1977 single from the band’s only studio album Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols.

The duo last met on stage in 2018 when they covered John Lennon’s “Gimme Some Truth” at the Welcome to Rockville festival, which was headlined by Ozzy Osbourne, Avenged Sevenfold, and the Foo Fighters in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Idol’s guitarist, Billy Morrison, shared a photo with the pair on Monday, writing, “We had an amazing show,” alongside additional images of the performance and some behind-the-scenes shots.
In May, the Foo Fighters christened the replica of of D.C.’s Storied 9:30 Club, marking the venue’s 44th anniversary. The band was joined by nearly four dozen acts — including Idol, Gary Clark Jr., the Pixies and Maggie Rogers — for the club’s opening run of shows.
During the band’s show at San Francisco’s Outside Lands festival last month, the Foo Fighters’ tour-long gag of playing Michael Bublé’s “Haven’t Met You Yet” culminated Saturday with the Canadian singer joining the band onstage to perform the sentimental 2009 single.
