Foo Fighters cancel all tour dates in wake of drummer Taylor Hawkins' death

Rock band Foo Fighters have officially canceled all their planned concert dates following the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins.

On Tuesday, the band announced it was scrapping all its scheduled shows, which included an April 29 appearance headlining the opening night of the Beale Street Music Festival.

Hawkins had been scheduled to play with the rock band at a festival in Bogota, Colombia, on March 28 before he was found dead in his hotel room. He was 50.

A statement released through the band’s publicist on Tuesday said: “It is with great sadness that Foo Fighters confirm the cancellation of all upcoming tour dates in light of the staggering loss of our brother Taylor Hawkins.”

The statement added that the band was “sorry for and share in the disappointment that we won’t be seeing one another as planned. Instead, let’s take this time to grieve, to heal, to pull our loved ones close, and to appreciate all the music and memories we’ve made together.”

A preliminary report from the Colombia's Attorney General's Office, determined after performing "an initial forensic examination," noted that Hawkins had 10 different substances in his body at the time of his death. The urine toxicology test indicated the presence of "THX (Marijuana), tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines and opioids, among others," a statement from the office said.

Hawkins’ final concert with the group took place on March 20 in San Isidro, Argentina. Their next show was scheduled for Lollapalooza Brasil in S?o Paulo, Brazil. The group was also set to play at the Grammy Awards on April 3.

The band's Beale Street Music Fest appearance was to be followed by a performance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival the following week. Foo Fighters had already announced a massive year of U.S. and world tour plans that would have carried them through the end of 2022.

Officials with Memphis in May, the organization that operates the Beale Street Music Festival, released their own statement on the cancellation, saying the organization "joins the legions of fans mourning the loss of Taylor Hawkins and our hearts are with his loved ones during this difficult time."

Memphis in May did not immediately confirm plans for a replacement act, but its statement noted that "updates to the festival will be announced next week."
