Footage Of J. Cole Omitting “Jada And Will Love” Lyrics During Performance Goes Viral
J. Cole has gone viral after an old clip of the rapper omitting lyrics referencing Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith resurfaced on social media.
On Monday (Oct. 15), footage from the rapper’s 2022 performance at his annual Dreamville Festival began making rounds, which saw him seemingly choosing not to rap the line: “That Jada and that Will love.” The lyric is from the second verse of his 2014 single “No Role Modelz.”
While its unclear whether the rapper was catching his breath or allowing the crowd space to recite the lyrics themselves, the move has been used as fodder to highlight the change in perception regarding the movie stars’ marriage. Once viewed as the preeminent symbol of Black love in Hollywood, the publicized strains in the Smith’s union has all but flipped that narrative. Many have taken issue with Pinkett-Smith’s actions and statements regarding her husband and their marriage in recent years.

In 2020, the Baltimore, Md., native admitted to engaging in an “entanglement” with R&B star August Alsina after the crooner publicized their fling earlier that year. Confirming the rumors of her and Alsina’s romance during an episode of her Red Table Talk show with her husband as a guest, Pinkett-Smith’s admission resulted in the Philly native being publicly ridiculed.
In 2022, Smith created shockwaves by slapping Chris Rock across the face during the Academy Awards in response to a joke made by the comedian about Pinkett-Smith’s alopecia. The 55-year-old, who received an Oscar for the Best Actor award later that evening, received an immense amount of backlash for his assault of Rock, including a 10-year ban from the Academy Awards.
The reemergence of the clip of Cole’s “No Role Modelz” performance comes in the wake of recent interviews by Pinkett-Smith, in which she reveals that she and Smith have been separated since 2016, although they remain married.
