Fox orders pilot about an Ikea-like store selling haunted furniture

What if Ikea furniture was evil? 

Well, you know, moreso. 

That’s the premise behind Fox pilot order called Horrorstör from Gossip Girl creator Josh Schwartz. 

EW has learned that Fox has comissioned a one-hour dramedy pilot about a 26-year-old named Amy. The pitch: “Amy is newly sober, and lands a job at the furniture mega store opening in her town called ORSK, the U.S. Flagship of the European furniture superstore. It feels like just the opportunity she’s needed to get her life back on track. But as Amy comes to discover, the store actually preys upon its customers’ desires to a supernatural degree, selling products that make their wishes and fantasies come true in unexpected and insidious ways.” 

To be clear, while Horrorstör spoofs the oft-mocked Ikea, the pilot has nothing to do with the actual Swedish furniture megastore. 

Schwartz and Michael Vukadinovich will write the project (without an allen wrench, presumably), which is inspired by a novel with the same name from Grady Hendrix, who will serve as a consultant on the project.

Horrorstör marks Schwartz’s first time writing a series since he and Stephanie Savage had Gossip Girl and Chuck on the air. Gail Berman will executive produce, along with Schwartz and Savage. Also serving as executive producers are Charlie Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), who brought the novel to Berman’s attention; and David Borgenicht.
