Free concert scheduled between Coachella weekends will launch Indio entertainment venue
Indio, the Coachella Valley's "City of Festivals," announced Monday a free, public concert to celebrate the grand opening of Center Stage, its latest project to revitalize downtown.
And it's happening right in the middle of the two Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival weekends, so you never know who could be in the audience.
A spotlight for Indio artists
The goal of Center Stage Presents Sonidos is to give community members the chance to experience the vibrant tapestry of Hispanic artists. Local talent will have a platform to shine, and residents will be able to take part in a more intimate music festival season experience.
"We are thrilled to unveil this brand new venue in Downtown Indio with such an exciting concert and it was important to us that this concert was free for the community to partake in," Mayor Lupe Ramos Amith said in a statement. "Join us as we commemorate the opening of a new landmark in Indio and embark on an exciting journey of artistic discovery and community celebration."
Where in Indio is Center Stage?
Center Stage is located at 82-881 Miles Ave, right next to the new Indio Taphouse restaurant in downtown Indio.
When is the free concert?
A ribbon cutting ceremony for Center Stage is scheduled for 5 p.m. April 17, and Sonidos will kick off the live entertainment portion of the event at 6 p.m.
Who will perform?
The concert’s lineup is expected to be revealed next week, according to a press release.
Indio's new center for entertainment
Center Stage will be the go-to place for a number of entertainment events, including the popular Second Saturdays free monthly concert series, open-mic nights, performances, viewing parties and more. A press release states the venue aims to celebrate and showcase the rich diversity of both talent in the community and entertainers traveling through the Coachella Valley.
The Indio City Council announced Center Stage events as part of the downtown revitalization efforts that began in late 2021.
