‘Frozen’ Takes Back No. 1 Chart Slot
Continuing to roll off its B.O. success, Disney’s “Frozen” soundtrack re-took the No. 1 slot on the U.S. album chart for a fifth non-consecutive week.
The companion to the big-screen smash ($384.3 domestic gross to date) claimed the apex with an 89,000-unit week, according to Nielsen SoundScan data for the week ending Feb. 23. Though that number reflected an 11% decline, it bested the 74,000 units shifted by country singer Eric Church’s “The Outsiders,” which slipped to No. 2 with a 74% drop after debuting at No. 1 last week.
“Frozen” is the biggest Disney toon soundtrack since “The Lion King” held the top for 10 frames in 1994-95. Since moving into the No. 1 slot in January, it has been displaced for a week by Bruce Springsteen’s “High Hopes,” and for two consecutive weeks by the “Now 49” compilation and “The Outsiders,” but has rebounded to reclaim the pinnacle.
The week’s only two top 10 bows are also debut albums. Country singer Cole Swindell’s self-titled Warner Nashville album boarded at No. 3 with 63,000 sold. The Georgia-born singer had a No. 1 country single in 2013 with “Chillin’ It.”
Another Georgia product, the metal unit Issues, arrived at No. 9 with a 22,000-copy launch of their eponymous Rise title. The band reached the national top 100 last year with an EP, “Black Diamonds,” which peaked at No. 96.
Holding on to top 10 real estate were the “Now 49” compilation (No. 4, 45,000 sold, down 41%), “Beyonce” (No. 5, 35,000, off 27%), Lorde’s “Pure Heroine” (No. 6, 30,000, down 21%), Katy Perry’s “Prism” (No. 7, 26,000, down 17%), Bruno Mars’ “Unorthodox Jukebox” (No. 8, 23,000, off 51%) and Tony Braxton & Babyface’s “Love Marriage & Divorce” (No. 10, 21,000, down 37%).
New titles by Dierks Bentley, the Fray and Beck are the likeliest candidates for top 10 ascension next week.
