Game of Thrones Shocker: Actors Reveal Making of THAT Unexpected Final Scene

Warning: This story contains spoilers for Sunday's episode of Game of Thrones, "Home."

Can it be true? Did the Game of Thrones powers that be just give fans the moment for which they've been praying and holding out all hope?

If that final moment of the episode is to be believed, the very dead Jon Snow ( Kit Harington) has been revived by the Red Woman Melisandre ( Carice van Houten). In other words, Lord Commander is baaaaack. And so is Melisandre's mysterious, life-altering magic.

PEOPLE caught up with a few of the major players from Sunday's major "revival" to find out how it all went down.



"[The resurrection] is really different in the sense that she had no idea she could do that," Van Houten says of Melisandre's miraculous magic. "She doesn't believe that it's her that does it. She believes always that there is something bigger that makes her do it, so she's not like, 'I'm a big sorceress,' no, she follows the Lord. She regains a little bit of her belief."

Despite the rather short scene and quick efficacy of Melisandre's work, Van Houten says she basically spent an entire shooting day washing Harington's body for the pivotal scene. "We shot the s--- out of it," Van Houten admits. "I've touched Kit's body, I've cleaned him I don't know, 55,000 times. To the point where I was like, 'Can he just wake up now?' she says with a laugh.

"I joked with him," Van Houten continues. "I said, 'If only my mother would be here,' because my mother and my sister both have a crush on him. [Harington] really enjoys when I say that. He's met my mother two times or something and he's always sort of flirty with my mother, it's really cute. My mother says at home, 'He's just like a son,' she's trying to hide the fact that she thinks he's a gorgeous man. He's really cute. So I had a lot of fun with him in that sense, 'If only my mother was here,' and he has a ripped body, he's a beautiful young man. But most of all he's a really generous actor and a really sweet guy, but it was a long resurrection. For that little thing it was a long day."

Like Van Houten, Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth) also praises Harington's stamina and stillness during all of Lord Snow's dead time.

"What's tricky, especially for Kit, was during the washing the body scene," says Cunningham. "We shot it for a long time, there are a lot of different shots on it. And that's a nightmare. When you're doing a dead body it's fine, you're lying there, unless you've been running and get shot, you have to [control your breathing], (Cunningham mimics huffing and puffing and then suddenly trying to hold his breath and play dead). From an acting point of view, it's very tricky."

Speaking of tricky, the next big question for fans and the show is: How long will Melisandre's magic work? Is Jon Snow back for good? Is he the same Jon Snow he was before being brutally stabbed to death by his own men? Both Van Houten and Cunningham remain mum on that subject. We're hoping this good deed helps earn Van Houten more positive feedback on social media than she's been receiving throughout her run on the show, during which fans have criticized her character.

"People like to hate me. That's fun," she says. "I've never played such a outspoken character before. Never so mysterious, so cruel and unpredictable. I've tried to play her being very sure of herself. Yes she can do cruel things but in her mind she's doing it for the greater good and she has a certain overview that nobody knows about. In the end it might pay off but so far it hasn't really given me any sympathy points."

How will this spell or magic or miracle (whatever you want to call it) effect Ms. Melisandre?

"She's not going to recover 100 percent, but she did a pretty big thing that people will be thankful for," says Van Houten. "On Twitter there were a lot of people [last season] that said, 'I want to kill you!' 'When are you going to die?' 'F--- you, die b----' and then at the end of episode 10, they were like, 'We'll forgive you if you save him!' I think what's going to happen is that they're going to say, 'Thank you' and now 'Goodbye.' We'll see."

Indeed we will, Carice. Indeed we will.
