Gary LeVox says he was 'never OK' with Rascal Flatts split: 'I hate the way that it ended'

Former frontman Gary LeVox is opening up about the end of Rascal Flatts.

The 51-year-old vocalist and his bandmates, Joe Don Rooney and Jay DeMarcus, announced in January 2020 the band would be embarking on a farewell tour after 20 years of performing together. In a recent interview with People, LeVox said he was "never OK" with the band's time together drawing to a close.

LeVox told People in a Friday published interview: "I hate the way that it ended. I hate that we didn't get to do this farewell tour."

In May 2020 the band canceled their farewell tour because of the ongoing pandemic and hadn't performed together since.

"I can't stand the fact that it just feels there's no closure with something that we've been so blessed with. That will always be in my heart," he added.

LeVox is still making music but without his former group. The singer released his first solo EP "One on One" in May and is embarking on a solo tour in 2022. DeMarcus has also been releasing music on his own with his latest single "Music Man."

In September Rooney was arrested and charged with driving under the influence near Nashville, Tennessee. He was later released on bond. LeVox told People he hadn't spoken to Rooney since the arrest.

"I think God gets your attention in different ways. I just wish him the best and I hope he gets everything that he needs to get well and take care of whatever issues he's got going on. There's power in prayer," LeVox said.

Rascal Flatts has scored 31 top 10 hits on Billboard's country airplay chart, including 14 No. 1 singles during their two-decade run. With a signature sound blending country tradition with a pop spirit and arena rock, the group has sold an estimated 23 million albums.

Hit singles include "I Like The Sound of That," "Bless The Broken Road," "Fast Cars and Freedom" and celebrated cover "Life Is A Highway."
