Gary Oldman Reveals Unique Way He'll Celebrate If 'Slow Horses' Finally Wins an Emmy

While Slow Horses was ignored at the Emmys for its first two seasons, Apple TV+'s critically-acclaimed spy thriller is up for nine nominations tonight—and Parade caught up with the Best Lead Actor nominee Gary Oldman on the red carpet.

Oldman, nominated for his role as disgraced secret agent Jackson Lamb, was with co-star Kadiff Kirwan, and the two actors were in sync in more ways than one: Both stars were wearing polka dots (Kirwan sported a black shirt with white polka dots, while Oldman wore a polka-dotted bowtie).

When asked if the pair coordinated on purpose, Oldman suggested it was accidental.

"It was impossible to know," he insisted. "But of course, that's true, we're both polka dots."

"Polka dot boys," Kirwan agreed.

Whether or not Oldman takes home a trophy tonight, he's ready to give a speech if necessary.

"I think it's polite to have something to say," he said. "Obviously, I'm in a category, and there's a chance that I could win. Therefore, you know, just, a little somewhat prepared. A win would be good, I mean, we'd love for Best Drama."

"We'd love for our show to be recognized but obviously the nomination is amazing," Kardiff added. "We've put so much heart into it, and here we are at the Emmys, you know?"

Oldman went on to talk about the show's beginnings and how the experience of filming has changed over the years.

"We did the first season through Covid," he said. "I was flying on the airplane, not a soul on the plane, not a soul at the airport, no one on the streets, we had the bubble where we had to go in one door and come out the other, we had the masks, we had the Covid testing every other day, and we did the first season that way. So we've come a long way."

As for whether or not Oldman will let his ponytail down Jackson Lamb-style if he wins the Emmy, that remains to be seen.

"Maybe," he said, smiling mysteriously at the possibility.

The Emmys air live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California at 8pm ET on ABC.
